‘I think she just wanted to be honest with me.’ Sadness is etched onto his face. ‘She said they didn’t kiss until about a month ago.’ He laughs, a little dumbfounded himself. ‘Apparently that’s supposed to make me feel better.’
Darcy squirms, feeling sick for Ed’s sake.
‘So now I keep playing back every conversation we had in that last month, trying to remember if she was acting weird.’
‘Was she?’
He shrugs, clueless. ‘I dunno. I mean, surely there were signs, but I was just too dumb to notice them.’
‘Oh, Ed, don’t be so hard on yourself.’
‘Hard not to be.’
Darcy wishes she could do more than just offer him a sympathetic look. ‘What can I do?’
He thinks about it for a moment, then proposes, ‘Get really, really drunk with me?’
Darcy gives him a small smile. ‘Sure.’ She lifts her glass to him.
‘To scum-cheating girlfriends!’
His words aren’t even convincing, but she clinks his glass, aware they’re in for a messy afternoon.
Bonnie sees him approach and her whole body tenses in anticipation. Oliver’s footsteps are fast, eager to reach her. ‘I left her for you.’
Bonnie smiles as the familiar images of a life with Ollie rush through her head. Somewhere in the back of her mind she wonders about Sophie and the baby, but she pushes the thoughts away. Ollie. She has Ollie. He chose her.
She reaches out to touch him but as she does—POOF!—he evaporates in a puff of smoke.
Amid the haze, someone touches her face and her hand moves up and intertwines with Ty’s fingers. She doesn’t even seem surprised that Ty so easily replaced Ollie.
Ty smiles at her. ‘You’re beautiful, Bonnie,’ he murmurs. ‘It’s you. It’s been you from the first moment I laid eyes on you.’
A giddiness sweeps over her. She won. She won Ty. All the other girls don’t matter because he chose her. She smiles, happiness and relief warming her body.
But then she looks down and realises she’s standing naked in front of a huge camera. Ben steps out from behind the lens, also naked. He walks towards her and doesn’t stop until he’s only inches from her face. His hands reach out for her and are firm against her waist, pulling her towards him. Their nude bodies press against each other. His lips touch hers, softly brushing them at first, but then hungry and passionate.
‘Bonnie?’
She pulls him closer, needing more of him, but someone’s calling her name. She doesn’t want to turn away from him, but she peels her eyes open. Her body is twisted in the sheets of her bunk bed in The One mansion.
‘You all right?’ Katie is watching her from another bed only metres away.
