Ed takes a deep breath, as though trying to calm himself so he won’t snap at her. ‘She’s my boss. I won’t be getting involved with her like that.’

Darcy knows she has to drop the subject, but she doesn’t trust Zoe Eggins. She doesn’t want Ed to have anything to do with her, but now he’s going to be working for her, seeing her every day. The niggling she’s felt all week hasn’t gone away. Instead she fears she’s going to feel like this for the next three months.

Chapter 32

32

For Ty it’s been another week of dates, but for Bonnie it’s been a week of solitary confinement in the house. A week for her to do nothing but think; to drive herself crazy with every thought flying through her head.

Another endearment party is in full swing, another key ceremony looming. Bonnie knows how important it is for her to spend time with Ty, but tonight she feels like she’s sitting back watching everyone around her in a movie rather than having the ability to interact herself.

She sees Ty walk across the grass after some one-on-one time with Addison. Bonnie knows she should go over and grab him before someone else does.

But she doesn’t. She just sits there and watches until Jodie sees him and races over in hot pursuit.

‘You waiting for an invitation?’

Bonnie’s head turns. Ben and his camera have probably just filmed her watching Ty. Her heart tenses as it always does when she wonders how she’s being portrayed. Ben lowers the camera so he can talk to her normally.

‘I thought Darcy told you girls tonight was the night to pounce?’

That’s exactly what Darcy had told them at the start of the night—to make the most of the limited time left. Whoever Ty picked tonight would get to take him to their hometown. ‘Yeah, she did. But everyone wants a piece of Ty so it feels greedy interrupting.’

‘Damn it,’ Ben says, ‘I should have filmed you saying that—it’d make a good dialogue grab.’

She shrugs, indicating he missed his chance. Bonnie’s seen Ben a couple of times since he caught her with the phone, but there’s always been people around, preventing her from clearing the air. ‘I’m sorry about the other day up in the bedroom—’

But before she’s even finished her sentence Ben gives a quick shake of the head; he clearly doesn’t want her to mention it.

She wonders how much trouble he’d get in if his bosses found out he not only knew about an illegal phone in the house but also failed to film it. Has Darcy suspected he covered for her?

‘All okay with you?’
