- Book Club Discussion Questions
Darcy snaps her head up; she hadn’t realised she was staring. ‘What kind of thing?’
Ed peers at the cover. ‘The dress, the hair, the flowers?’ He’s used to talking about these kinds of particulars with his clients, who give specific details of what they want him to cover when filming.
‘I don’t know,’ she tells him honestly.
Ed’s amused. ‘Have you even thought about what you’d like at the wedding?’
Darcy considers for a moment. ‘I’d like tulips.’
‘So, a winter wedding then?’
She stares at him blankly.
‘That’s when they’re in season.’
‘Oh.’ She considers. ‘I guess.’ Does she really want to get married when it’s cold? Do brides base their entire wedding date around what flower they want?
‘Have you and Drew talked about the wedding?’
‘He’s talked about all the people he wants to invite.’
Ed doesn’t say anything, which makes Darcy feel like she has to explain. ‘We just haven’t had the chance. We talk every night but it’s not usually for long. I’m always buggered after work and Drew seems to be helping coach every Gloucester High sports team so some nights we only manage five minutes before one of us has to go.’
‘Well, there’s no rush,’ Ed says, seemingly trying to reassure her. ‘There will be plenty of time to plan a wedding once he gets back.’
‘Yeah.’ Darcy nods, feeling a little bit better. She should just admit that planning a wedding with someone she’s barely seen since she got engaged just feels really weird but instead she purposely changes the subject. She’s ready to find out what happened with Zoe Eggins and Smith Street. ‘So, you took the job?’
‘Start Monday,’ he says with a nod.
Darcy knows she should be happy for him, but the whole thing just makes her feel uncomfortable. ‘What’s happening with Love Lens?’
‘It’s all sorted.’ Ed takes a drink. ‘I’ve lined up people to film and others to edit but I’ll still do as much as I can.’
Darcy wants to comment that he’s going to burn himself out if he works full time on Smith Street and then has to come home and edit wedding videos late into the night for Love Lens, but she forces herself to bite her lip.
Ed senses she wants to say something, so adds, ‘I’ve told Zoe I’ll give it a go for three months then decide what I want to do.’
She nods but another question is niggling away in her mind. She has felt unsettled all week because of it. ‘Did you go home with her?’
‘No, Darce, I didn’t go home with her.’
He seems a bit annoyed, which raises a red flag. ‘But you wanted to?’ She can’t help herself.
