  67. Book Club Discussion Questions

But Bonnie has frozen. It hadn’t crossed her mind that Sophie might answer Ollie’s phone and now she’s struck with a sinking feeling. Maybe Sophie somehow found out that Bonnie has been stalking her Facebook page. Maybe Sophie has restricted her privacy settings so that Bonnie can’t see everything anymore. Would Oliver know? Would they be talking about Bonnie? Are Oliver and Sophie actually in a good place and has she stupidly jumped to the wrong conclusion?

‘Hello?’ Sophie’s getting annoyed now.

Bonnie’s stomach twists like a dishcloth having water squeezed out of it. Oliver probably wrapped his arms around Sophie and told her she had nothing to worry about. He was with her and Bonnie meant nothing to him.

‘Bonnie?’

Bonnie jumps and the phone fumbles out of her hands and lands on the floor. She looks up and sees Ben with the camera rested on his shoulder, but he’s looking at her around the side of it and not through the lens. She finds some relief in that—he hasn’t filmed the moment he caught her red-handed with the mobile.

He looks down at the phone and then back at her.

A faint yet irritated ‘hello’ comes from the phone’s speaker.

Bonnie picks it back up and ends the call, drowning out Sophie’s voice. ‘Please don’t tell anyone,’ she says hurriedly to Ben.

Without missing a beat, he says, ‘Tell them what?’ Ben is stone-faced in his reply, so much so that it takes Bonnie a moment to realise that he’s purposely chosen to ignore seeing anything.

She’s about to smile her thanks but Ben moves abruptly, his head turning towards the stairs. ‘Hey, Darcy,’ he calls, his voice louder than it had been only moments ago as he moves away from the bedroom.

Bonnie’s heart begins thudding in her throat as she realises that Darcy has arrived at the house and is now only metres away. Bonnie quickly shoves the mobile under the blankets.

‘Hi, Bonnie,’ Darcy says, appearing in the doorway. ‘Did Ben tell you we’re going to shoot some footage with all the girls?’

They’re probably going to ask the group what they think of Hayley’s relationship with Ty. Do you think Hayley is the right kind of girl for Ty? What do you think Ty sees in Hayley? Do you think Hayley’s here for the right reasons?

They’ve done this a couple of times before when someone has been out on a date. Bonnie cringes at the thought of the others being asked the same questions about her when she’s been on a date with Ty. Bonnie can’t even answer the questions truthfully about herself.

Am I the right kind of girl for Ty?

What does Ty see in me?

Am I here for the right reasons or am I just trying to bury the feelings I have for Ollie?
