- About the Author
“The one and the same, but we can talk about it later. For all that’s happened tonight, Griffin Huntsmen and his psychotic Irish helper, Barrett Connolly, the other guy in the SUV, get to die,” Zack declared. It was an easy decision. There was no chance of civilian collateral. It was simple—they were going to hunt down two very dangerous men and kill them both.
“Well then, I recommend you pick up the speed a little bit so we can get to the killing,” Nick said, automatically transitioning into the same state he’d experienced before every mission with Special Forces. The battlegrounds may change, but the battles remain the same. Time to put on your game face, Nick.
As the SUV barreled toward the gate, each man took comfort and confidence in the knowledge that there was no one better on the planet to fight alongside than the other.

FORTY
The pain in Griffin’s arm was excruciating, but it was no comparison to the fury he’d experienced at the sight of Zachary Chambers moving tactically across the street and grass, eliminating the remainder of Griffin’s forces. First Brandon Harper, and then Zachary. He didn’t believe in coincidences, but he also didn’t know enough to come to an informed conclusion about it. He’d hoped that after Malta, Zachary Chambers had died in a ditch somewhere or contracted an extremely painful type of cancer that guaranteed a slow demise. But he’d been disappointed once again.
While his blood ran down his shoulder, he checked the range of motion, and he could still lift the arm as well as flex his hand. Not totally useless.
“That man right there, that is none other than the arrogant bastard who disobeyed my orders in Malta, the one the agency kicked to the curb, the infamous Zachary Chambers. He believes he’s a crusader, when in reality he’s just an arrogant, small-minded man. He is good, though. I will give him that,” Griffin said, his voice trailing off, mixed with seething hatred and respect for his former subordinate. “Stop the SUV. I want to see what he does.”
Barrett was livid with himself. It was his job, his responsibility, yet he’d somehow missed both a retired deputy director of the CIA and a former SAD operator living in the same community. How did this happen? How could I have failed Griffin?
