“Jill! I’ve been looking all over for you.” Sam rested her hand on her hip. “Never thought I’d find you on the dance floor. Want a dr—”
Jill’s attention moved to Reagan, who muttered, “Excuse me,” before walking away.
Sam shook her arm, but Jill pulled away and shouted to Sam, “I’ll be back in a minute.”
She moved through the crowd, nudging people out of her way. Once the crowd thinned, she looked toward the bar but didn’t see Reagan anywhere. She turned to her right and walked to the back hallway where the bathrooms were located.
The hallway was abandoned and Jill groaned to herself. “Where the hell is she?” As she reached for the restroom door handle, the door opened and Reagan stepped out.
She looked up as she clutched her chest. “Jill. You just keep bumping into me, don’t you?”
“Seems that way.”
Reagan pushed open the door and held it open for Jill. “Here you go.”
Jill stepped back and away from the entrance. “Oh, I don’t need to go.”
“Then what are you doing here?” Reagan let the door close and stepped to the side, wrapping her arms across her torso.
“I wanted to make sure you were okay. You rushed off and I thought you might be upset.” Jill bit the corner of her lip and stuffed her hands in the back pockets of her jeans. “I want to apologize if I took our dancing too far.”
“It’s fine.”
“Are you sure? Because you seem a lit—”
Reagan’s lips crashed into hers, lips she found to be just as soft and hot as she imagined. Jill closed her eyes as she melted into them. Reagan gripped the lapels of her jacket and pushed her against the wall. Jill groaned. Her mind went blank except for one thought—she needed more. So much more. She tightly gripped Reagan’s hips and pulled her closer. She begged for entrance with a sweep of her tongue across Reagan’s lower lip, and Reagan let her in with a whimper.
Jill slipped her hands under the hem of Reagan’s shirt, but the moment Jill’s fingers brushed against her skin, Reagan backed into the opposite wall. Her eyes were wide and unfocused, her breathing fast and ragged. Just as Jill reached for her, Reagan scurried away.
Jill stared at her retreating form as her breath returned to normal. She ran her hands through her hair, replaying what had just happened. She hadn’t initiated the kiss so it wasn’t like Reagan didn’t want it, right? Why did she run away? Had Jill done something wrong? Taken it too far? She fought the urge to follow Reagan and ask her all those questions. She sighed as she thought about all the unknowns.
