“Mm-hmm.” After a beat, Reagan opened her eyes and asked, “Would you like to go out for drinks with my friends? Meet them properly and away from business?”
Jill’s hands stilled for a second before resuming her caresses. Her initial instinct was to decline. She wasn’t good at this stuff. People. Chatting. Knowing it would make Reagan happy, she replied with the only thing she could. “Sounds good.”
“Yeah?” Reagan asked with a smile.
“Yeah. I’m not great at things like that, but they’re important to you. It’ll be good to get to know them.” Just saying that made her nerves settle. Reagan’s friends were important to her and that probably meant their opinions were just as important. If they hated her, would they pressure Reagan into breaking up with her? She inhaled slowly as Reagan rested a hand on her leg.
“Don’t sweat it. They’ll love you.”
She stroked Reagan’s ankle and then her foot, seeming to graze a sensitive spot as Reagan jerked her foot back and sat up. “Ticklish?” she asked with a grin.
“Not one bit.”
“Uh-huh. Sure.” She looked at her watch, frowning slightly. “It’s getting late. I should head out.”
Reagan stood and held out her hand. “Nope, you’re staying. I think somebody earned a reward,” she replied with a wink.
“You or me?” Jill chuckled.
“Yes.”
Once they fell into bed, Reagan reached for her and Jill lost herself in Reagan’s touch and taste. She fell asleep with a smile on her face and her arm wrapped around the woman who made everything feel right.
Chapter Eighteen
Reagan pulled into a parking spot a few blocks away from the bar to meet her friends and Jill—the same bar where Reagan and Jill had shared their first kiss. Oh, what an interesting night that was.
As she closed her car door, her phone chimed, a text from Jill.
Harrison pulled me in on something. Sorry, but I’ll be a little late.
How long?
Reagan leaned against her car for a moment, her stomach dropping with each minute that passed without a reply. Crap. What were her friends gonna think when Jill showed up late? Would they still give her a chance afterward? Well, of course they would. They weren’t assholes. Maybe my nerves are getting to me. She wanted the night to be perfect and for Jill to get along with her friends. Reagan tried to calm herself with slow breaths. She knew Jill was probably even more nervous than her so she pulled her phone out to text her again.
Sending good vibes that the meeting ends quickly. Can’t wait to see you! And remember, my friends will love you.
