“Will you tell me if it’s too much?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Thank you.” Reagan captured Jill’s lips in a soft, slow kiss. She pulled back and quirked an eyebrow. “And ma’am, huh? I like that.”

“Is that right?”

“Mm-hmm.” Jill licked her lips, and it took every ounce of Reagan’s strength not to pounce on her. However, rational thoughts prevailed. Standing up straight with her hands on Jill’s knees, she took a deep breath and said, “I should get going.”

“Oh. Are you sure? There’s more coffee if you want to stay.”

“I told my mom I’d be over today. We’re planning a trip for the week of Thanksgiving. Going to spread my dad’s ashes at a cabin we went to every year.”

“That sounds nice,” Jill replied as she brushed the backs of her fingers against Reagan’s cheek.

“It will be. But it’s gonna be hard, especially for my mom. We’ve never been there without him.” Jill gently squeezed her hands. Reagan smiled. “It’ll be good, though. My mom and I will have time to talk, maybe try to figure out how to find our new normal. But I’ll see you on Friday, right? We have our final meeting to go over last-minute details.”

Jill unlocked her phone and checked her calendar. “Yep, I have it down for three.” She put the phone down and looked at Reagan, biting the corner of her lip and clearing her throat. “What would you say if we changed the time?”

“To when?”

“What about after work? You could come over and we can grab some takeout or something.”

“Well, that is a much better idea, Ms. Jacobs,” she replied with a kiss.

“I thought so.”

“Have a good day. Don’t work too hard.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Jill replied with a grin.

Reagan grinned and waved before walking out the door.

Chapter Fourteen

Reagan adjusted her bag on her shoulder outside Jill’s door. When it opened, Reagan eyed her from head to toe, loving the fact that Jill seemed to have the slightly rumpled, end of the workday wardrobe on. She wore skinny, black dress pants and a white long-sleeve button-up with the sleeves rolled up and the top few buttons undone. Her feet were bare, toenails painted a dark purple. As Jill ushered her into the condo, Reagan placed a soft kiss on her lips.

“Hey, you,” she whispered.

“Hi. Glad you could make it.”

“How was your day?” Reagan asked as she placed her bag on the island.

Jill took a loose hold of Reagan’s fingers in her own. “Busy like always. We have this campaign for a sports drink company that my team has been working hard on. Client seems difficult to please, so every time we think we have it nailed down, they tell us just how wrong we are. Then it’s back to square one.”
