She stepped back against the wall, closing her eyes, her body still vibrating with arousal. She could look for Mira so she could take her home and take care of the throbbing between her legs, but it wasn’t Mira she wanted. What she wanted had just run away from her.

Reagan rushed back to the dance floor and found Carly. She gripped her wrist and pulled her around. “I need to go!” She headed for the bar and closed her tab as quickly as she could before heading for the door.

“Wait up!”

She stood just outside the door and hugged herself around the waist. She needed to walk but it would be a dick move to pretend she hadn’t heard Carly and ditch her.

A few seconds later, Carly pushed through the door, frantically searching for Reagan. Her shoulders relaxed as she met Reagan’s gaze. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Reagan shook her head.

“Want to talk about it?”

Another shake.

“Let’s go.”

Reagan nodded and turned in the direction of her car.

What in the world had she been thinking? Why did she kiss Jill? She wasn’t even a nice person. Maybe Reagan could blame it on the alcohol or wanting to feel something more than the sadness and heartache over the past several months. But why did she have to find comfort with Jill? Any other available woman in the bar probably would have been a smarter choice than Jill.

Reagan groaned inwardly as she pictured Jill waiting for her in the hallway. She looked so fucking good. And she kissed even better. So what if they had fit perfectly together on the dance floor? So what if Jill’s lips looked so soft and tempting, so much so that she was half-tempted to turn around and finish what she started. But that would be an awful idea. Jill was snobby. And abrupt. And a client!

“Stupid,” she mumbled to herself.

“What’s wrong, Reagan? What was with the sudden exit? You can tell me.”

“Not right now.” She continued her slow jaunt to her car, parked a couple blocks away.

“Okay. No problem.”

They walked in silence for the final block until Reagan whispered, “I kissed her.”

Carly pulled her to a stop with a grip on her elbow. “Who?”

Reagan rubbed the back of her neck, staring at the ground. “Jill.”

“The Ogre?”

Reagan covered Carly’s mouth with her hand. She had no idea if Jill was still in the bar or not, but she never wanted Jill to hear that nickname. She stepped back and slammed her hands on her hips. “Keep your voice down. I know she was awful when you guys met, but don’t call her that, especially around me.”

“Whoa. Calm down.” Carly raised her hands. “Did this just happen?”

“Maybe.” Reagan kept walking.

“So?”

“So, what?”

“How’d it happen? Why’d you run afterward? And most importantly, how was it?”
