- About the Author
Leaning my head against hers, I returned the favor. “And I won’t…because I’ve only ever been yours.” There was no need to promise her that I’d break up with her first, because there was literally no one else for me. I wouldn’t ever be with another woman after Kiera. Even if we did end…I was done. I’d rather be celibate than put my heart out there again. And I didn’t think I could have sex without my heart anymore. There was just no point.
We arrived at the parking lot where three huge buses were waiting. I pulled into a spot beside Evan’s car, my heart heavy as I shut off the engine. This was it. My bandmates climbed out of their vehicles with their girlfriends, all smiles and excitement. It made me feel guilty that I didn’t feel the same way as them. It also worried me. Evan and Matt…they were so unfazed about leaving Jenny and Rachel. Like it didn’t even occur to them that the pair of girls wouldn’t be there when we got back. It wasn’t even a thought in their mind, and it was all I could think about with Kiera. It felt ominous. I hated it.
Kiera was watching the numerous band members, and the mass of people wishing their friends and loved ones well. I could see the same moroseness on her face, and I knew her thoughts were similar to mine. It didn’t make me feel any better. Needing a distraction, I pulled the keys out of the ignition, and handed them to her.
She looked confused as her fingers wrapped around them. “Take care of her for me, okay?”
Her eyes widened with—I swear to God—excitement, and I had a little trouble letting go of the keys. “You’re giving me your car?” she asked, looking pleased as punch.
I immediately shook my head. “I’m just letting you borrow her. I’ll want her back.” Kiera’s corresponding grin was a little unsettling. The Chevelle might be a muscle car…but she wasn’t a toy. “Make sure you get the oil changed and fill her up with premium…and don’t drive on the hills if it snows and no joy riding…” A horrible thought struck me, and I added, “And don’t let Anna drive her. I’ve seen what she did to Denny’s car.” Lord help me if I came back and my baby was littered with shit. I’d definitely never leave again.
Kiera smiled at the look on my face. “I won’t,” she promised. “I’ll keep your baby in mint condition, Kellan.”
