“Did you enjoy it?” she asked. “Your little friend was quite responsive to my coaxing.”

She wriggled the tip of her tongue at him.

He stammered. “I don’t know what you did, but you stay away from me.”

“My milk will come in soon; I’m rather unique in that fashion.” She slid her hands to her breasts, cupped them, and glanced at him with a sly smile. “I’ll need someone to suckle. Interested? I’ll ride your dick while you suck the teat.”

“What? No. I don’t want anything to do with you.”

She laughed. “Oh, I got what I wanted from you, doctor. And you had a wonderful erotic experience you’ll never forget. I’d say we’re square. Run along now, dear. I truly don’t need you anymore.”

She stepped forward and slammed the door in his face.

Pat had awakened at her usual time, seven-thirty, and followed her usual weekday routine, with one variation: after a shower, she applied both of the creams that Grace had given her the day prior.

Her skin tingled pleasantly as she rubbed in the treatments. It was her third application. She’d used them twice yesterday; the first time immediately after Grace had visited, and again before going to bed. It was probably too soon to expect any noteworthy effects, but her skin certainly felt different. Softer. Smoother. More vibrant. She had used anti-aging products in the past, but these were unlike anything she had tried before, at least in the respect of how they felt while being absorbed into her skin.

Perhaps it was time to reconsider her harsh characterization of Grace. The woman’s generosity had surprised and delighted her.

By nine o’clock, Pat was driving her Toyota Camry to the humane society. She’d gotten in late yesterday and wanted to make up for lost time. Although she was only a volunteer and the minimum commitment for volunteers was just five hours per month, Pat’s service far exceeded the minimum. She’d become an indispensable member of the staff.

The Atlanta Humane Society campus was located on Howell Mill Road. The parking lot was already getting full, but she found a space in the area of the parking lot reserved for volunteers.

The campus was a light gray building with lots of windows and a huge canvas awning at the front entrance. A poop-bag dispenser and can stood near the front doors, since many dogs tended to eliminate in the area around the entrance, but a volunteer always wound up stepping outside several times a day to attend to any messes.

Inside, the adoption area, where she worked, was already full of activity. She signed in. The adoption supervisor, Fran, looked relieved to see her.

“It’s raining cats and dogs in here,” Fran said, one of her favorite sayings. Like Pat, Fran was a retiree. She was on the permanent staff.
