  47. About the Author

I would also like to thank SASS (the Subtle Asian Sapphic Squad), for being the international sapphic community I never thought I’d be able to find when I was a questioning and closeted teen growing up in a highly traditional Korean immigrant household in Texas. I’m so lucky that I found y’all, and I get so happy just thinking about the group’s existence. Thank you to all the friends I met, online and in real life, through SASS. I wrote this book for us.

Last but not least, I need a whole separate section to thank the incredible artists whose musical masterpieces filled with sapphic yearning are the beating heart of this book. I doubt any of them will ever read this, but I’m literally listening to “Good Luck, Babe!” as I write this, so might as well! Of course, thank you, Chappell Roan, for The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Seriously, so good, no skips. I listened to the album on repeat while working on this book, and all the songs are relevant to this book in some way. And thank you to my all-time fave, Halsey, whose duet with Lauren Jauregui, “Strangers,” lived rent-free in my head for years before I ever thought of writing this book. I also definitely can’t forget to thank Hayley Kiyoko, our Lesbian Jesus, for giving Asian sapphics like me the pop-cultural representation we’ve always wanted. Finally, thank you, FLETCHER for “girls girls girls” and Billie Eilish for the incredible sonic and emotional journey that is the album Hit Me Hard and Soft. Wow, I love women.
