When a man first becomes interested in a girl he seldom has her in mind as an object of matrimony. He is interested rather in her sexual capture. He sees her flanks move beneath her dress and he knows he wants to strip and fuck her. This is the most natural thing in the world. It speaks well for his vitality, his aggressiveness and his manhood. And, too, interestingly, what woman wants a man who does not have a powerful desire, a truly powerful desire, to remove her clothing and have sexual relations with her? She will fantasize it long before it happens. But the point here is that the man’s initial motivations with respect to the female have less to do with matrimony and the qualities of her mind, which may be stimulating and considerable, than they have to do with her rape. Now it is quite true that as soon as he gets to know this woman, and learns her humanity and her mind, the primary center of his interests may shift, and doubtless should, from the crudities of rape, to the fantasies of delicious, willing conversation and love between them. He will probably still, and healthily, fantasize her rape, but the whole matter is now much more complex. She is now, to him, a real person, perplexing, challenging, delightful, complicated. Life is no longer simple. His fantasies may now even reveal her as the sexual aggressor, wanting him, begging for him. He wants her, but he wants her, too, to want him. Of her own will, she gives herself to him. Rape fantasies will now be subordinate, and appropriately, because it is pretty hard to think about raping someone you like. Rape is an aggressive act. She wouldn’t like it. You would not want to hurt her. On the other hand, interestingly, she too has had, or is having, her rape fantasies. And the initial motivation for your pursuit of her was your desire for her sexual capture.
