I calmed myself down and tossed the pillow aside and sighed. “Well, first he said hello.” I giggled. “Actually, its kind of funny; he said, ‘This is Jack. Harrington? Like I wouldn’t know! And then he asked how the car was, and how I was—”
“Typical guy to ask about the car first,” smirked Taylor.
I laughed. “Oh, be nice!” I sat up and felt my face splitting with a huge grin. “And then he asked if I would accompany him to a premiere next month!”
“Oh, my goodness!” Taylor breathed. “For Destiny Awaits, right? I’ve seen the trailers. Oh, wow; this is like Cinderella for the new millennium!”
Missy snorted. “Yeah—except she doesn’t have any oppressive stepsisters or stepmothers or a fairy godmother—but other than that, yeah, totally Cinderella.”
Taylor rolled her eyes. “Fine, it’s a general, nondescript fairy tale for the new millennium, that better?”
“So what else?” Joy asked.
“He’s picking me up in a limo. And afterward there’s a party at Alexis Giovanni’s.”
More hoots and hollers followed, and in the end we were all sprawled around the floor, giggling spastically. But the more I thought about it, the more unsure of the whole thing I became. “Oh man. I’m never gonna look the part. I’ll need to get a new dress! What on earth do you wear to a premiere?!”
“Don’t you have any old prom dresses or anything?”
“Oh yeah, sure, pink sequins are just the right thing; good thought, Missy.” I pelted her with a pillow. “Seriously, you guys, you know me, I’m not the dress-up type; I never wear makeup, much less get all dolled up. I don’t know how to do ‘dolled up’!”
“We’ll take care of you, don’t worry. You’ll be stunning.”
“I don’t know if I want to look stunning. I mean, not too stunning, anyway. Stunning isn’t me. I just want to be me, you know? Can I do that with a celebrity?”
“You’re stressing way too much, Grace; calm down,” Joy advised. “It’s a month and a half away, you have plenty of time to get everything sorted out, and it’ll all be fine. Don’t worry.”
I sighed and flopped my arm over my eyes. “Oh, the drama.” I sighed. “You know, I really wish something interesting would happen to me; life is just so dull these days.”
