Damn! When women were good they were good. She had my selfish, no good ass. That’s why I was calling her in the first place, I had been busted. Had Nicole not smacked me in the face with the reality of my ways, I would have ignored Danni for the rest of the night.

I said, “Okay, I understand if you want to do you for the night, since I didn’t call you back in time. But if you feel like you still want my company later on, you know where to find me.”

I didn’t want to go too soft, but not too hard either. Ultimately, Danni still had to want me.

I waited for her response, only to hear ruckus over the phone.

“Look, don’t be grabbing on me like that, you don’t know me,” I heard her tell someone. “Yeah, whatever. I’ll get his ass thrown out of here. He just don’t know. Anyway…

“So, you’re not coming in here to see me?” she asked me over the phone again.

“Danni, Visions is not my kind of place, unless I’m forced to be there on business, and this is definitely not business,” I told her. “I would only be coming in there to see you. And I would much rather see you on more personal grounds.”

“So, you don’t want to be seen with me out in public now. Oh, don’t even play that. Do you know how many guys in here want me. Yeah, give me another drink,” she told the bartender in my ear.

She was reading things the wrong way and giving me no other choice than to walk up in there and try to play Superman.

I tried one last time to have things my way instead.

“Let’s make this easy for both of us. You walk out, I meet you outside, I walk you to your car, and I’m yours. Okay? I’m yours.”

I didn’t hear anything but background music and chatter from the club. I guess Danni was thinking about it in silence. That was a good thing.

“You mean that?” she asked me. She sounded serious, too, and vulnerable.

Did I mean it? For the moment, I did. “Yeah, I mean it.”

“Don’t be playing around with me, Terrance. Okay? If you mean that, then mean it for real.”

Sounded like she was taking it more seriously than I thought. That scared me. But I would rather have that conversation face-to-face with her.

“Meet me outside, I’m parking right now.” I was willing to park illegally to get her the hell out of there.

Danni finally said, “Okay. I’m coming out.”

As soon as we hung up the phone, my heart started racing. What had I just done? And how seriously was she taking it?

It was too late for second thoughts. I parked the car outside of the parking lot and immediately drew attention.

“You can’t park there.”

“I’m not staying,” I told one of the parking lot workers. “I’m just getting my girl and I’m gone.” I was already walking across the street to meet up with Danni.
