- About the Author
“It’s good to be the king,” she repeated.
TaShay was excited about it as well. “Thanks,” she told me.
They pulled me right along to the entrance of the VIP area. We showed the guards our orange bands and made our way up a spiraling staircase to the elevated area that overlooked the rest of the nightclub. We were about fifteen feet high. The ceiling of the place must have been around forty feet.
“Wow, this is it!” TaShay exclaimed.
I had seen better, but each nightclub had it’s own unique flavor to it. They even had a bar on the elevated area.
TaShay and Tan got to ordering drinks and dancing immediately. Their favorite guy, 50 Cent was back on.
“We gon’ party like it’s your birthday…”
As long as they were having a good time, I figured I would just relax and enjoy the setting.
“Excuse me, aren’t you a model?” a woman asked me. She looked Indian to me, in silky brown skin and thick dark hair. All she needed was a dot on her forehead and the shimmering clothes.
I said, “Yeah, you read a lot of magazines?”
“I love magazines,” she told me. “I’m working on putting one together now for East Indian design. Our idea is to put everyone in East Indian clothes to cross them over.”
She pulled out a business card in a flash and handed it to me.
“My name is Donjha.”
Her business card had colorful Indian designs twisting and twirling around the edges. She was a design assistant at Influence magazine.
I nodded to her. Then I stood beside her and asked, “Do you think these two girls have the winning look to help cross over some of your Indian designs?”
Donjha followed my eyes to TaShay and Tan. She spotted them and smiled, nodding to me excitedly.
“Yeah, they’re hot.”
I looked them over for myself, dancing only a few feet away from me, and they did look hot. They both had that winning appeal on the dance floor. Other people were watching them dance as well.
Just out of curiosity, I asked Donjha, “If you could only chose one, which one would you choose?”
She frowned at me and shook her head. She said, “They’re different, but they’re complementary. And they have the same size. That’s great. I would use both of them.
“Are you modeling with them?” she asked me.
“I modeled with one, but I just met the other.”
“Well, we could use all of you. Just give me a call on Monday and I could introduce you to the editor. She’s real cool. Her name is Sarah.”
I had to be frank with her about all of that. I wasn’t a successful model for nothing.
I said, “Well, you know, I don’t really model on the start-up levels anymore. And I would have to talk to their people about them.”
Donjha looked at me and smiled. “We already know what the prices are. We want to go after nothing but the best.”
