She said, “I realize that I was wrong in our little argument or whatever, so I’m calling to make it up to you now.”
It was a week from Thursday when she was first on her period. I guess she was off it now, but it was too late to make it up, at least on that night.
I said, “Okay, so you can admit when you’re wrong, huh?”
She took a breath and said, “Please don’t make this any harder than what it already is.”
Imagine that. The girl called me up to apologize and yet she still had attitude.
I zipped up my carry-on bag for the airport and was ready to split.
“Well, we can talk about it when I get back,” I told her.
“You don’t want to see me before you leave?”
“No. We’ll just talk when I get back.”
“Well, what are you gonna do tonight? You leave in the morning, right? I figured I’d come over and spend some time with you.”
I actually held the phone away from my ear and looked at it. She had to be bullshitting me.
I said, “So that’s it, huh? You got bored with me treating you with some respect, so now that I tell your ass off, you call me back with some makeup shit.”
“Terrance, I rarely do this shit, okay. When I fuckin’ walk, I walk. So consider yourself privileged that I’m even calling back, let alone trying to make up with you. Now I said I was wrong already, but I’m not calling you to beg.”
Yes she was. She would beg if I made her. She was already begging if you asked me. I was just ready to catch my plane.
“All right, well, we’ll talk about it when I get back,” I repeated to her.
“Why do you keep saying that?” she asked me. “What do you have planned for tonight?”
“I’m leaving tonight,” I broke down and told her.
“For where? I thought you flew out to L.A. tomorrow morning.”
“Yeah, well, things changed. I’m flying out there tonight now. So I’ll call you when I get back.”
“You’ll call me when you get back? Who do you plan on being out there with? You can’t call me while you’re there?”
Was I really supposed to answer that?
“Look, you’re gonna make me late for my plane,” I commented instead.
“I’ll just call you on your cell phone then.”
Danni hung up without another word. Then my cell phone went off from my hip.
I checked my suitcase once more to make sure I had everything I needed. I walked out the door with my bag. There was no sense in answering Danni’s phone call until I made it to my car and was headed for the airport.
However, once I hit the road, I got a call from Corey. I hadn’t spoken to him since Chicago. How ironic was that with me flying back out to Chicago that same night?
