“Ohmygod,” Madigan said incredulously, but as she did, she realized if Tobias had said that to her, she’d be totally turned on. She studied Starr for some hint of a spark between them, but she looked totally unfazed.

“Save it, Zan,” Starr said as they headed over to join the others. “Gracie and I need a man, not a playboy.”

He fell into step with them. “You don’t know what you’re missing.”

Starr didn’t even look at him as she said, “I’ve heard that before, and nobody has ever lived up to their self-professed hype.”

“That’s because you haven’t been with Zan the Man.”

As Zander tried to convince Starr to give in to a night of fun, Madigan took in the tiki lights flickering around a roaring bonfire, beside which Marly and Blaine looked to be in a hushed and heated conversation. Marly was wearing a strappy leather bralette with silver spikes and a built-in collar and one of her colorful skirts that had a slit all the way up to her hip. Zeke was pacing with his phone to his ear a few feet away from the group, and Chloe, dressed in a red leather minidress, was fussing over the food table, swatting Maverick’s hand away as he tried to grab her ass. Steph and Sid were assessing the goodies on the table. Madigan was excited to see Sid, since she didn’t usually participate in the book club.

Marly stalked away from Blaine, heading for a cooler in the sand by the food table. Madigan headed in that direction, but Blaine cut her off.

“Hey, brat,” he said playfully. His thick dark hair was as tousled as always, making him look even more like James Marsden. “I hope you’ve got a sweatshirt to put on over that.”

“Sorry, Daddy, but haven’t you heard? I’m a big girl now.”

He chuckled. “I’m just giving you shit, but be careful dressed like that.”

“Aren’t I always?”

He cocked a brow, and they both smiled. “I haven’t seen much of you this week. Where’ve you been hiding?”

“What are you talking about? You just saw me Wednesday night.”

“Yeah, for five minutes before you stormed out of the bar. What’s going on with you lately?”

“Nothing. Just busy.”

Blaine’s brows slanted. “Busy, like seeing a new guy or busy like you don’t feel like hanging out?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know? What’s up with you and Marly?”

He smirked. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“You know she’ll tell me.”

His gaze drifted to Marly. “She’s mad because I went out with someone she’s apparently not very fond of.”

“Does she have a reason to be jealous?”

Blaine scoffed. “Marly doesn’t get jealous. She’s pissed.”

“If you two aren’t together, why does she care?”
