- Meet Melissa
Everyone laughed, and they continued making their way around the table, sharing what they were thankful for. Tobias’s turn was nearing, and there were several things he wanted to say to Madigan’s family and to his, but there were also private things he wanted only Madigan to hear. Someone made another joke, and as laughter rang out, he leaned closer to Madigan and whispered, “Thank you for accepting me with all of my faults and flaws.” She looked at him with so much love in her eyes, everything else faded away, and his heart poured out. “Thank you for helping me find myself, my family, and my purpose and for opening my eyes and my heart, which allowed me to focus on becoming the best man I can possibly be. Thank you for choosing me. If I get nothing else in this life but eighty more years with you, I’ll be a rich man.”
“I love you, Tobias, and I’ll always choose you.”
“I hope so, because I still have strides to make before I’ll be worthy of your hand, but I’m going to marry you one day, Blue Eyes, and I’m going to make your life so damn good, you’ll never regret a second of it.”
“I’d marry you tomorrow and never regret it,” she said with tears in her eyes.
His throat thickened, and he drew her closer. “I love you, baby, and I appreciate that, but I don’t want to rush. You’re too important to me. Remember July Fourth, when you sang to me about how I was unwritten and totally undefined?”
She nodded.
“When I get down on one knee, I want us both to know exactly who I am and what lies ahead. I want to be a man you can be proud of in every sense of the word, and then we’ll write all our pages together for the rest of our lives.”
Tears streamed down her cheeks. “I want that.”
“I want to find that, too.”
Tobias turned at the sound of his sister’s tearful voice, and everyone was looking at them, the women dreamy eyed and the men nodding approvingly. Tobias cleared his throat. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
Preacher held up his glass in a toast. “Here’s to more of those kinds of interruptions in our lives.”
“Hear, hear,” Grandpa Mike said.
As everyone lifted their glasses, Madigan said, “Here’s to singing too fast and being called out for it by the broodiest biker at the Salty Hog.”
“That’s only because Tank wasn’t there,” Blaine said, and everyone laughed.
