- Meet Melissa
“This doesn’t feel right. If I hadn’t come along, you wouldn’t be distracted from the things that are important to you. What if I help you? I’ll keep you on task instead of distracting you. Hell, you can put me to work. I’ll do whatever you need. I can make phone calls, stuff packages. You name it, and I’ll be happy to do it. Just don’t put off the things you’re passionate about.”
“That’s the point. I’m passionate about us. Can’t you see my smile?” She pointed to her pearly whites.
“I’m serious, Mads.”
“I know. That’s why I’m smiling. I know you’ll do whatever it takes to support me. But I promise you that I’ve been thinking about expanding for a while and only put the wheels into motion because I couldn’t stop thinking about you.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Be honest with yourself, Mads.”
“I am. I needed something that would keep me super busy, and expanding a business takes oodles of time.”
“Oodles?” He kissed her. “You’re so fucking cute. Can’t you start small?”
“Yes, but my brand is big, so if I start small it will only end up exploding in my face.”
“There has to be a way.”
“There is. I commit to the extra time with Chloe, because working with the residents makes me happy, and we continue monopolizing each other’s time in fun and filthy-dirty ways, and see where we are in a year.”
Was she seriously thinking that far ahead about them? “Why a year?”
“Because that’s the shortest length of time I’m willing to go before thinking about giving up time with you for something as unimportant as selling hoodies.”
Her words hit him right in the center of his chest, and he reveled in it. But he was serious about not letting her put off her dreams because of them. “Six months.”
“A year, but there’s a caveat. An option period.”
He arched a brow, loving the sneakiness in her eyes.
“If in a year we’re still as happy as we are now, I have the option to delay expansion for another year.”
He wound his arms around her. “And what happens if you’re happier then than you are now?”
“Then the option period is extended to two years.”
“And if you’re even happier in two years?”
“The extension period doubles every time it comes up.”
“So, basically, if we’re happy, you might never expand your business?” He smacked her ass. “You’re a shrewd businesswoman. But I’m not signing that deal.”
Her brows knitted. “Why not?”
