“Apparently so. It was only one punch. They were in Vegas, and he was sentenced to five years for manslaughter but only served three.”

“But Blaine made it sound like he…” Anger roared inside her, and she shot to her feet. “I’m going to kill him.” Seeing red, she stormed out of the house and spotted Blaine pacing by his motorcycle, talking on his cell phone. She sprinted off the porch, past her father and Zeke.

Blaine turned around just as her hands connected with his chest, shoving him backward.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” she shouted, shoving him again. “He got in a bar fight protecting his sister, and you made it sound like he murdered someone in cold blood. That could’ve happened to any one of you. Maverick could have killed that asshole who attacked Chloe, and then what? Would you have gone after him, too?”

“It’s our job to protect you.” Blaine stepped closer, looming over her. “And you went sneaking around with a guy you knew nothing about after we told you he was trouble and to stay away from him.”

“That was your opinion. I decide who I spend time with, not you,” she fumed.

Blaine got in her face, nostrils flaring. “We lost Ashley because we didn’t watch her closely enough. Do you really think we’d take a chance on losing you, too?”

She stopped cold, struggling to drag air into her lungs, tears welling. “Don’t you dare use her death against me.” She spun around on shaky legs, nearly barreling into Zeke and her father, and pushed past them.

“Mads,” Zeke called after her.

She kept walking.

“Where are you going?” Blaine hollered.

She turned, tears streaming down her cheeks. “To see Tobias, and don’t try to stop me. I’m going to tell him I’m sorry my brothers are assholes and if he’ll still talk to me after being humiliated in front of his whole neighborhood, I’ll listen to his side of the story and make my own fucking decision about whether I want to see him again.”

“Don’t bother,” Blaine said flatly.

“Go to hell.” She headed for the house.

“Tobias is gone,” Blaine hollered.

Madigan froze.

“He packed his shit and took off minutes after you left,” Blaine said. “Tank and Maverick followed him almost to Rhode Island before turning back.”
