- Book Club Discussion Questions
Bonnie glances back to Ty and the makeup girls leaning over him. She’s now having doubts about not kissing him. Was that just a waste of her time? Will his relationships with the other girls be moving forward while theirs just took a backwards step?
‘You all right?’
Bonnie knows she shouldn’t say anything to Ben, but he’s easy to talk to and words just slip from her lips. ‘I don’t know.’ She lowers her voice, in case someone hears her. ‘Being on here is playing games with my head. I know I barely know the guy, but then again, I feel like I kind of do.’
‘I get it,’ Ben says warmly. ‘Time on this show is intense, relationships are magnified because you’ve got nothing else to think about.’
Bonnie realises she’s making him listen to the same old rehashed conversations. ‘Sorry, you’ve probably heard it all before.’ Now she imagines Ben watching the suitor hook up with girl after girl, date after date. She suddenly feels just like one of many and doubts about her relationship with Ty come flooding in like a full-moon tide.
‘Feel free to talk away,’ he says. ‘I’m all ears—and all beard.’
Bonnie laughs, but wonders if she’s seen something behind his smile to suggest he isn’t really interested in having her talk about kissing Ty. The poor guy must be lumped with these conversations all the time and has to be polite because he’s at work. She’d prefer to stay here and talk to Ben, but she indicates towards the group of girls, still sitting down on bales of hay, glasses of champagne in their hands. ‘I better get back.’
He gives a little nod and she forces herself to walk away.
In a shed on the other side of the farm, away from the rest of the group, Darcy scans the list of questions on her clipboard. She’s been asking Bonnie, who is sitting in front of a tractor, a stream of questions about her date with Ty.
Is horse riding with Ty something you could see yourself doing in the future?
Did any of the other girls try to steal his time?
Do you think the tension with Imogen is putting a strain on your time with Ty?
How did you find your one-on-one with Ty?
Is there a reason you didn’t want to kiss him?
After seasons on this show, Darcy is used to analysing every moment and prying about every second of a date.
She’s relieved to finally say, ‘I think we’re done.’
Bonnie’s visibly pleased by this and Darcy throws a look to Ben. ‘Cut.’
He steps back from the camera. ‘I’m heading to the bathroom. I’ll be back in five.’
Darcy is clicking her pen onto the clipboard when Bonnie draws her attention back.
‘That’s new, isn’t it?’ She points to Darcy’s hand.
