But now, here at The One mansion, there’s nothing else to do. Her hands feel empty and yearn for her camera. They aren’t allowed mobiles or laptops or tablets. They aren’t even allowed to watch the news or read the paper. There’s absolutely no contact with the outside world. The only real stimulation is reading, board games, movies and exercise. Most of the other girls dedicate the long empty days to working out. The days you don’t go on a date with Ty are tedious. When a date card arrives, it gives everyone something to think about, to talk about. They spend ages analysing the clue, guessing what it could be.

‘You’re not joining us?’ Imogen asks as she sees Bonnie staring. The makeup team are now spraying each of the girls with water to make them look like they’ve broken into a light sweat from the yoga.

Bonnie wants to be amused by this, but instead Imogen’s voice is enough to make her snarl. She tries to avoid any contact with Imogen. She is nasty with a capital N.

‘Not really my thing.’ Bonnie shrugs.

Imogen tosses her hair over her shoulder and Bonnie suppresses the urge to roll her eyes. Why on earth doesn’t she pull it into a ponytail while exercising?

Imogen’s wearing a triangle bikini top and possibly the shortest shorts Bonnie has ever seen. She settles her hands on her hips. ‘Too good for us, are you?’ She says it lightly but doesn’t quite hide the intent of her words.

Cassie looks up now from a downward-facing-dog position to gauge Bonnie’s reaction. The two women had formed a fast-tracked friendship over the past week. While Bonnie just feels out of place, Cassie is missing her five-year-old son, Zac. Cassie’s husband died in a motorbike accident when she was pregnant, so she’s raised Zac on her own and finally feels ready for romance. This isn’t the way Bonnie would go about it if she were in Cassie’s shoes, but who is she to judge?

‘Come on, Bonnie.’ Imogen can’t leave it alone and Bonnie wonders if she’s had a producer in her ear suggesting she stirs some drama. ‘You were the first to lecture us on getting along, but here you are just sitting there with your nose stuck up.’

Bonnie glances at Ben, who has his camera pointed at Imogen and the rest of the girls with their butts in the air. He’s ready to capture Bonnie’s retaliation, and offers her a cheeky smile, daring her to either join the group or flare at Imogen’s comment.
