  67. Book Club Discussion Questions

He slumps back in the passenger chair. ‘Look, she only got back from Sydney late last night. It wasn’t the right time to break up with her.’

Bonnie tries to ignore the image of Sophie crawling into bed with him. She isn’t the kind of girl who would own daggy PJs but sexy lingerie. Actually, she probably just sleeps naked. ‘How about this morning then?’ Now an image of Sophie naked at the breakfast table flashes into Bonnie’s head.

‘I had to rush to work for a breakfast meeting.’ Ollie drags a hand down his face. ‘I’m the new guy, remember, I can’t afford to show up late just yet.’

A wave of frustration surges through Bonnie. ‘Ollie, are you sure you want to break up with her?’

‘Of course I do. Why would you say that?’ His eyes are wide, searching for her answer.

Bonnie shrugs. ‘I just assumed when you left here the other day you’d be going straight home to break things off. I didn’t think I’d be sitting here almost a week later still not sure what’s going on with us.’

‘I told you, she went away. I couldn’t break up with her over the phone.’

Bonnie gets that. No one deserves a phone break-up. ‘She’s back now and she’s spent the day making bookings for your wedding.’

Oliver clears his throat, his eyes casting downwards.

‘You didn’t mention how soon your wedding is …’ Bonnie fishes.

‘Soph wanted a winter wonderland theme and I just said okay. It wasn’t a big deal to me.’ Oliver exhales. ‘We were still in Sydney at that stage. I didn’t know I’d feel this way when I saw you again.’ He turns back to her. ‘I want to be with you, Bonnie. I really do.’ His eyes stare into hers, the same eyes she fell in love with when she was seventeen. Memories and emotions bound tightly together.

He leans towards her until their mouths are only inches apart. ‘Please, can I kiss you?’

She should say no, she should tell him they can kiss when he’s a single man, when Bonnie isn’t the other woman. But instead of answering him, Bonnie leans forward, her lips meeting his. It’s an instant relief as their tongues collide, sliding in and out of each other’s mouths. The reprieve is short-lived, however, because Bonnie quickly finds herself wanting more and Ollie clearly feels the same way. His hand moves onto her waist and up under her shirt, his fingers creeping up her stomach before cupping her breast. She reaches for the button in his jeans, but her elbow hits the horn and blasts out a loud hooonnnk!
