  67. Book Club Discussion Questions

Biggest love to my three little cheerleaders, Leo, Minnie and Cherry, who are always close by, sometimes on my lap, or nestled under my arm as I write the words. You inspire me every day. Special mention to Leo, who said I’m his favourite author, ahead of J.K. Rowling—which is the greatest compliment in the world from my obsessive Harry Potter fan.

My mum, who has read all the pages numerous times, along with discussing the characters and story arcs in depth on our beach walks. Your support and encouragement have meant the world to me.

Thank you to the team at Harlequin for bringing this book to life. A special thanks to Rachael Donovan for believing in me and this book after I pitched to her at the RWA conference. I will be eternally grateful. Also, huge appreciation to my editor, Julia Knapman, for her insight, patience and editorial brilliance at making The One a richer story.

My cousin, Sharon Hammond, who took me onto the set of E Street when I was ten years old. I still have vibrant behind-the-scenes memories that I know spurred me on to have a lifelong love and fascination for film and television.

I must make note of the English teacher who gave me full marks for a creative writing piece when I was about fourteen and commented, ‘You have a vivid imagination.’ Those words have stayed with me all these years.

Thank you to Toni Fatherley for pushing me in the classroom. Your knowledge and brilliance are astounding.

A huge hurrah to all those involved in my days at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. TV Land and the Res Scheme are four years I’ll never forget and have certainly armed me with plenty of stories to tell.

Thank you to Bevan Lee, who gave this country girl her first big break and dream job as a storyliner on a brand-new television show when I was fresh out of university.

I’d also like to acknowledge the mentors and friends from the world of television, especially the story masters from the script departments. There are too many names to mention, but I value all your guidance and appreciate the story skills you helped me develop. Being in a plotting room is such a thrilling experience—and I still pinch myself for the time I spent in there.

Special mention to the Romance Writers of Australia. Joining this organisation was a critical step in my writing journey and I feel overwhelmed by the tribe’s love and support. Also, to Writing NSW and the Australian Writers’ Centre for all the courses and festivals I’ve attended over the years. These have been hugely beneficial for writing growth.

To the inspiring friends I have made along the writing journey: Christine Ratnasingham, Maya Linnell, Clare Atkins and Faith Mckinnon.
