Bonnie notices Ben tilt his head to the side so he can see her around the camera rather than through the lens. ‘Still rolling.’ He shrugs. ‘If you want to say something else?’

There’s a calming presence about Ben and she finds herself sitting back down despite herself. She takes a deep breath and focuses on the camera. ‘I really hope the right guy for me is out there,’ she says. She’s surprised that amused laughter bubbles from the bottom of her throat. ‘It’d just be nice if he hurried up.’ Once again she holds her smile before letting it drop, ready for this to be over.

‘Cut,’ Darcy calls and approaches. ‘Thanks so much, Bonnie. That was great.’

Bonnie knows it wasn’t great, but appreciates Darcy saying so.

‘That’s all you need?’ She’s already signed the official paperwork.

‘Yep, you’re free to go.’ Darcy offers a smile with a look of acknowledgement that Bonnie’s about to escape the crazy TV world.

Bonnie gratefully pushes out of her chair. She can’t wait to get home and scrub the makeup off her face and change into something comfortable.

‘I’ve arranged for your mobile to be couriered up. It should be delivered to your place this afternoon,’ Darcy says.

Bonnie’s heart beats a little faster, the anticipation of getting her phone back higher than she’d ever thought it would be. ‘Thanks.’

‘Good luck,’ Darcy says. ‘I really do hope the right guy finds you soon.’

Bonnie nods. ‘I hope you figure everything out too.’ It was only yesterday that Darcy had been crying about wanting to call off her own engagement.

Darcy forces a smile, but a stricken look crosses her face, something she’s managed to hide at work and in front of her boss. ‘Me too.’

Bonnie is making her way across the room when she hears a voice. ‘Heading straight for the drive-through?’

She smiles as she turns to face Ben. That hadn’t crossed her mind but … ‘Yeah, I think I might.’

He laughs and is about to say something else when Darcy’s boss, Alice, crosses to him. ‘I need to review the footage.’ She clearly isn’t going to wait until Ben finishes his conversation with an ex-contestant.

‘Of course.’ He nods at Alice, but his face drops as he turns back to Bonnie. ‘See you.’ He waves goodbye.

Bonnie waves back, her smile falling at their conversation being cut short. But she’s eager to leave. She’s a free woman and there’s a hamburger calling her name.

‘It’s not terrific, but it’ll have to do,’ Alice says tersely as they watch back Bonnie’s exit interview.
