- Book Club Discussion Questions
Bonnie almost laughs as she curls her legs up underneath her. ‘For what?’
Carla falters for a moment. ‘Humiliation, for one! You’ve put your entire life on hold for a guy who never should have been given the privilege of being on The One.’
‘Privilege?’ Bonnie wants to smirk at this suggestion but quickly reminds herself that Carla is a diehard fan of the show. There are going to be plenty of other people who will be just as horrified as Carla. Poor Ty. He’d had his heart broken and was just trying to get over his ex. Bonnie knows how that feels.
‘Want to stay the night?’ Carla offers.
But after her time in The One mansion, company is the last thing Bonnie feels like.
A few hours later Bonnie is snuggled on her own lounge, a glass of wine in one hand, ice-cream in the other, trying to determine if she’s treating heartbreak or humiliation.
She flinches when there’s a knock at the door. She should have known better than to expect Carla would be able to stay away. Bonnie had seen how her sister’s face had fallen when she had turned down her offer of staying over. Carla would have wanted to stay up all night, badmouthing Ty of course, but also interrogating Bonnie about every behind-the-scenes element of The One. Bonnie wasn’t up for any of that. Can’t she just be a bear and hibernate for the next couple of months?
Ha! She smiles at the thought. Carla had been panicked that Bonnie would be without her mobile until she officially signed off the show. Darcy will be coming over in the morning with all the paperwork and to brief her through the exit interview. She doesn’t even want to think about what she’ll be encouraged to say to the cameras. Darcy had said they still weren’t sure what angle they were going to take as to why Bonnie was leaving the show. Apparently, they don’t want Bonnie to say that Ty is still in love with his ex. Bonnie swallows the sour taste in her mouth. She’s disgusted that the whole production team seem to be okay with turning a blind eye. How would Addison, Hayley and Jodie feel if they knew?
Bonnie doesn’t even know how she feels!
She’s sad for herself because she’d had a glimpse of a future with Ty, but she’s also sad for him, still deeply hurt and mourning his last relationship. But then, if she sweeps all the sadness to the side, she’s really pissed off with him. Why did he decide to come on a show when he’s still pining over someone else? But then she reminds herself not to climb too far up on her high horse. After all, she’s spent an awful lot of this ‘journey’ thinking about Ollie.
There’s another knock.
