Four seasons in and she still doesn’t know whether she believes ‘the one’ can be found this way, but it’s pretty much in her job description to wholeheartedly believe that true love can be found on television. ‘Of course.’
But he doesn’t meet her enthusiastic and over-the-top smile. He looks more vulnerable than she’s ever seen him.
She glances over at Ben standing near the van. He’s on his phone now. She wishes he’d hurry up.
‘I’m starting to wonder if I made a mistake coming on here.’
Darcy doesn’t panic. She knows he’s having a tough date. ‘Maybe Samara’s not the one, but you still have lots of other great girls to explore things with.’
‘Samara’s not the one.’ His voice is low as he hangs his head. ‘I don’t think any of the girls here are right for me.’
Darcy had thought they were having a stock standard freak-out, but her heartbeat quickens at an image of Alice’s face screeching at her for being an incompetent field producer. If the suitor walks on her watch, she’ll never get another job in TV.
‘We all have those kind of days,’ Darcy begins. ‘Some days I wonder if I’m doing the right thing marrying Drew.’
He looks quizzically up at her. ‘Really?’
‘Yeah.’ And she’s being honest. ‘Some people think high school sweethearts have an amazing love story, but in reality we were just two fifteen-year-olds who hooked up and never broke up.’
Ty seems to be mull this over. ‘Yeah, but you’re obviously together for a reason?’ He isn’t buying into her angle. ‘I mean, if you weren’t meant to be together, you would have broken up by now.’
