- About Mark Dawson
“I looked through the door. It’s a reception area. There was a man behind a desk.” He took out his phone. “Got some footage of the cameras they’re using. Here.”
He handed the phone to Ziggy, who chuckled as he scrubbed through the footage.
“This is going to be easy,” he said.
“You can get into them?” Chase asked.
Ziggy took one of the laptops from the seat and put it on his lap. “It’s funny,” he said. “People are worried about security on their networks, but they don’t think about the things that connect to the network. Take your phone, for example. If you get the password wrong enough times, it’ll lock. The cheaper peripherals don’t always do that, like the cheap Chinese cameras they’re using.”
His fingers flew across the keyboard.
“What are you doing?” Chase asked.
“I’m connected to the camera over the office door,” Ziggy explained. “And now I’m running a program that’ll fire thousands of possible passwords at it every second.”
“You’ll be able to guess it?”
The laptop pinged. “It’s not guessing,” Ziggy said. “It’s a brute force attack. And… and I have it—SuperSafe132. Hilarious.”
He typed in the password, hit return, and then turned the laptop around so that Milton and Chase could see the screen: they were looking down from the camera’s vantage point onto the area next to the door that Chase had passed through just minutes earlier. Ziggy had hijacked the stream from the camera.
“Well done,” Milton said. “Get the others, too.”
“Already on it. Looks like there are cameras inside, too. I’ll get them all.”
They waited as Ziggy worked his magic on the other cameras, adding them to his screen one at a time.
Chase nodded to the warehouse. “You think that business is legit?”
“Very likely,” Milton said. “But it won’t be how he makes most of his money.”
“You think he’s keeping drugs in there?”
“I’d say there’s a good chance. I’ve seen something similar in Vegas.”
Chase gazed out at the warehouse. “Getting inside’s not going to be easy.”
“We don’t need to get inside.”
“No?”
“I have a much better idea.”
Ziggy put the laptop down. “Ten cameras. Three inside, seven outside. Got them all.”
“Good.”
Milton put the MPV into reverse, turned around, and headed out of the estate.
“What now?”
“We need to find a spot to take Jackson out.”

Worsley was to the west of Manchester. Milton drove south, through the industrial estate, until they reached the junction for the A580. It was a dual carriageway with industrial units to the north and residential properties to the south.
“He comes this way?” Milton asked Ziggy.
“He has done the last couple of nights. He goes into Manchester. The A580 through Pendlebury is the best way to get there from here.”
