‘They’ve been combing through my 23andMe matches who I haven’t connected with yet but it seems like they still think it’s either Cris or Adam. They said Cris is the best fit based on what they know at this point. I’ve been trying to connect with Adam, even if it’s just to talk to him and see what he’s like, figure out if he’s a viable alternative and give me at least some peace of mind about seeing Cris and Rosie. But he still hasn’t returned any of my messages.’
Andie leaned down to take a shot, ignoring that it was actually Travis’s turn. Before she pushed the stick forward, she looked up at me. ‘I know you think Cris seems too nice to be TSK but he could be manipulating you. They did say TSK was good at that.’ She hit the ball with gusto, having better success than her first attempt and sending a striped ball zooming into the far corner pocket. Andie’s arm shot into the air and she danced around in a circle in celebration.
Travis whistled and said, ‘Nice shot, babe.’
As Andie moved to the other side of the table to line up another shot, she said, ‘You shouldn’t go back up there, especially not alone. With these new abductions, TSK is clearly making a comeback. It’s not a good idea to see Cris again until you’re sure it’s not him.’ She took the shot and then straightened up. ‘I’m worried about you. This is really dangerous, Liz. Last time you didn’t even tell me you were going. What if something had happened to you?’
‘But maybe I’ll find out more by spending time with him that’ll sway me one way or the other. I really don’t think he’d hurt me.’
‘Said the cat to the mouse,’ Andie said under her breath.
I frowned. I trusted my instincts but I trusted Andie’s too. If Andie was worried, maybe I should take her concerns a little more seriously. While Travis took his shot I looked back at my phone, the article still on the screen. The pool balls clanged and the sound of a ball sinking into a pocket seeped into my ears but I kept reading.
