Jill settled in, placing the container on the middle cushion. The restaurant was known for its generous portions, so Jill had gotten one meal for them to share. For the next ten minutes, they took turns taking bites of food and telling the other about their day, and Reagan filled her in on the plans for her dad’s benefit.
After they’d eaten most of the lasagna, Reagan dropped her fork into the container. With a sigh, she said, “I really appreciate you bringing me dinner, Jill. But I need to do some work. I don’t think I’ll be great company for the rest of the night.”
“I figured.” She pointed to her bag by her coat. “I brought some work over too. I thought we could have a working date.”
“A working date?”
“Just thought we could spend some time together,” Jill murmured.
Reagan moved the container to the coffee table before leaning forward and kissing her. “Softy.” Jill blushed. “I’d love for you to stay.”
She brushed her lips against Reagan’s, cradling her head in her hands. She swiped her tongue along Reagan’s lower lip, tasting a sweet hint of sauce.
Reagan whimpered and pulled back. “Okay. None of that on working dates. That’s the rule.”
“There are rules? No kissing at all?” She stuck out her bottom lip in a mock pout.
Reagan rolled her eyes. “Well, maybe when we take breaks. And there might be something extra as a reward for a job well done at the end of the night.”
“Then what are you waiting for? Get your stuff and get cracking.”
“On it,” Reagan replied as she slapped Jill’s thigh.
Jill retrieved her bag and pulled out her laptop while Reagan picked up her own from the coffee table. They sat on either side of the couch, their legs outstretched and intertwined as if this was what they did on a typical night. Maybe it could be—someday—she thought. But she didn’t want to get ahead of herself.
Instead, she opened up her laptop and pulled up the budget analysis her head of finance had sent over. Now and then, Reagan flipped her computer around to ask Jill’s opinion about font or color choice for the invitations, but the rest of the time they worked in comfortable silence. Once Jill completed her work, she put aside her computer and focused her attention on Reagan. She started by slipping her hand underneath Reagan’s pant leg, skimming her fingers along the smooth skin of her lower leg. When Jill kneaded her calf muscles, Reagan sighed and moaned.
Reagan placed her laptop on the floor and leaned her head back against the armrest. “Shit. Do you know how good that feels?”
“I have a pretty good idea, but I’ll let you show me another time just to make sure. Want me to keep going?”
