  25. About the Author

She swooshed the water over her arms and watched the bubbles popping and shifting against her skin. She had a pleasant feeling of anticipation in her stomach. The evening was going to be good, she could tell. James was so considerate making sure they were going to a restaurant where she’d like the menu. Dylan had loved carvery meals and all-you-can-eat buffets. Not really her thing, but she’d been dragged along to them often enough to get used to them. The thought of an elegant Italian with a handsome man was definitely something worth looking forward to.

Thank goodness for second chances.

She got out the bath and dried off. Her skin was hot and tingly but the heat had made her thirsty so she pulled on a fluffy white dressing gown and headed into the kitchen.

As she filled a tumbler from the tap, a figure marching down the path towards her apartment caught her attention.

Georgie.

What was she doing back so soon? They’d only said goodbye an hour ago.

Her lightweight mac was flapping furiously, her hair whipping out behind her and there was a flush of colour on her cheeks.

“What the…?”

Megan knocked back a few mouthfuls of water then rushed to the door. She pulled it open and within seconds Georgie was in front of her. Now she was closer, Megan could see that her red cheeks were tear-stained and her eyes puffy.

“What on earth is the matter?” Megan said, pulling her friend close for a hug. So many things were going through her mind. Had someone been hurt? Was Tom okay?

“He’s so unreasonable. I just don’t understand why he has to do it?” Georgie hung on to Megan and sobbed.

“Do what?” Megan was alarmed. She’d never seen Georgie so upset and so angry at the same time. “Are you talking about Tom?”

“Yes.” Georgie released her. She stepped into Megan’s apartment and through to the living room, her fists clenched at her sides. Once there she paced to the window, the kitchen then back towards the sofa.

Megan watched her agitated movements from the doorway. “What’s he done?”

“He’s only gone and started planning a bloody stag weekend to Amsterdam, hasn’t he.”

“Oh…” She paused. “And Amsterdam is a problem because…?”

“Of course it’s a problem.” Georgie pushed her hands through her hair and actually stomped one of her feet on the carpet. “Here was me thinking we’d have a nice spa day, me, you, and Brendon, something elegant and relaxing, and he’s off with not one or two, but ten mates to the sex capital of Europe.”

“But they’ll just be drinking and having a laugh, I’m sure nothing—”

“A weekend of drinking, smoking and chasing women…!”

“Tom wouldn’t—”
