- About the Author
“But the temptation will be there. I know Tom loves me but he’s still a man and his mates, especially that Ed and Neil, they’ll be window shopping for…you know…and egging all the others on. I can just imagine them now, wandering down those seedy backstreets…”
“Tom wouldn’t though…I know he wouldn’t.” Megan would bet her last pound on it. Tom was devoted, loyal and very much in love with Georgie. Why would he risk anything?
The fight seemed to go from Georgie. She studied Megan then sat heavily on the couch. “I know. You’re right. It’s just…”
Megan sat next to her and draped an arm over her shoulder, pulling her close. “It just seems unfair, is that what you mean?” she asked softly, then pressed a kiss to Georgie’s hair.
“Yes, and he didn’t think to ask me first what I thought. That’s what hurts the most. He’s just started organising it with his mates.”
“I guess that’s something that takes a while to get used to when you get married, always having to think of another person as well as yourself. Ask before you plan things to make sure it works for you both.”
Georgie was quiet for a moment. “I suppose.” She spread out the fingers on her left hand. The gem in her new ring caught the light.
“It really is beautiful,” Megan said, rubbing her finger on the back of Georgie’s hand. “And he chose that all by himself. He didn’t ask you first about that, did he?”
“No, I guess not.”
“And he got it right.”
Georgie sighed.
“You’ll just have to trust him on this one too.”
“Maybe you’re right.” She fiddled with the ring. “I love it. Really love it.”
“And you love him and he loves you, so it will all be okay.”
Georgie released a juddering little sob, emotions clearly bubbling up inside of her. “Can I stay here tonight? I don’t want to be alone in my flat.”
Megan hesitated for a brief moment. “Of course.”
“You sure?”
“Yes, we’ll find a girly movie and order in pizza. In fact, I’ve got Notting Hill down there on DVD, been meaning to watch it for ages, I love that film.”
Georgie had clearly forgotten about Megan’s plans to go out with James.
“Me too. Hugh is great in that film.” Georgie wiped at her cheeks. “Can I borrow some pyjamas?” She looked at Megan’s dressing gown. “Then we can slob out together, no men allowed. Push them from our minds for a few blissful hours.”
“Of course, I’ve got plenty.”
Georgie managed a shaky smile.
