  25. About the Author

“Sure, that’s what they’re there for. And I’m certain we’ll have someone on the books who you could try out. I’ll make sure it’s someone decent too. Experienced and efficient.”

“I’d appreciate it, thanks.” Megan smiled at Georgie. She really was lucky, not only were her best mates excellent at supporting her emotionally, they also came up trumps with practicalities too.

“Well,” Brendon said and glanced at his watch. “I must skedaddle, places to go, people to do and all that.” He stood and pulled Gucci’s lead from his pocket.

Gucci spotted it and ran in tight little circles, yapping loudly.

“What are you up to tonight?” Megan asked.

“I too have a hot date.” He tipped his chin in the air and looked smug.

“You have?” Georgie and Megan said together.

“Yes. Don’t look so surprised.” He frowned and scooped up Gucci to stop his barking.

“It’s just you usually would have told us the minute you walked in,” Georgie said.

“Well, I didn’t want to steal attention from the engagement or Megan’s thunder about Ralph and Jayne.”

“So who is the lucky chap?” Megan asked.

“His name is Seth Walker and I met him at Costa.”

“Costa?” Georgie said, raising her eyebrows.

“Yes, you know, the place where they serve coffee.”

“Smart arse,” Georgie huffed.

“He’s a very skilled barista.”

“He works at Costa?” Megan asked.

“Yes, while he’s studying for a degree in sociology. He’s a poor student, I said I’d take him for a slap-up meal.”

“That’s very kind of you.”

“I thought so.” Brendon scooped up his denim jacket. “Well, also he’s going to need some extra calories to burn, because I, unlike Miss Prim-Knickers here”—he gestured to Megan—“do put out on first dates, in fact it would be rude not to.” He licked his lips and grinned. “Oh yes, I intend for Seth Walker to expend serious amounts of energy later, he’s definitely going to need feeding first.”

Megan looked around her once again quiet flat. It was good to be back in it and now that her boxes were unpacked and the place was aired and warm, she didn’t mind being alone—especially not when she had such a nice evening to look forward to. Plus it was great her friends could just call in on her, they’d stopped doing that when she’d been living with Dylan.

Miss Prim-Knickers! Brendon had a cheek. Just because she wasn’t a tart like he was with no shame when it came to adding up the notches on his bedpost. Brendon would happily have a different guy every night of the week—not that he did, even he didn’t have the energy for that.
