- About the Author
It was definitely him this time. She was the director Tom Melton had hired. She was in charge of this mess. John and Anna were going to be working closely together for the next four weeks.

Chapter Thirteen
Anna walked over to the craft services table. She talked and laughed with a few members of the crew, relaxing for the first time since arriving at the studios. Earlier, after leaving the soundstage, she had met her two lead actors, Derek Vance and Nicole Cristoli.
Derek had starred in two cable TV shows. As the titular vampire, he had little more to do in the first iteration of the script than gaze into the middle distance. Jenny’s version required him to emote. Anna made a mental note to tell the AD they were pushing Derek’s most emotional scene to the end of the shoot. It would give Derek time to adjust.
The lead actress, Nicole Cristoli, had gotten her start in a reality TV show Anna had never watched. She’d done a few TV guest spots here and there. She was ten years younger than the lead actor, of course. The love interest always was. All in all, it could have gone much worse with them.
She turned around, looking for her seat at the table.
Reed had entered the soundstage. He looked as pulled together as he had in London. She breathed a sigh of relief. Then Anna looked at the man next to Reed, with his tousled hair, his comfy hoodie, and those familiar ripped jeans.
“Oh shit,” Anna said.
No. It can’t be. Why is the universe messing with me this way?
The shock on John’s face had to be mirrored on her own. She couldn’t hear him, but she could be certain what he said, and what he said was “Oh shit.”
What’s he doing here? He couldn’t just be there, with his perfectly toned back, his perfect jawline, and his not being in LA. He looked good—a little tired, like he needed a nap, but he didn’t look bad.
Jenny glanced up at Anna, puzzlement on her face, then swung her head between Anna and John like a spectator at a tennis match. Anna didn’t want Jenny to put the pieces together between the screenwriter-slash-bartender and the cater-waiter-slash-vampire-minion or whoever the hell John was playing in this movie.
Whatever had brought him to the set, she knew after their conversation in the bar that acting in this movie was the last thing he wanted to do. Perhaps he was one of the recently recast parts and wouldn’t be on the set long.
