  46. About the Author

Jenny was right—running around on set was hot. In the last week, Anna had memorized the location of every spare closet, hidden corner, and forgotten backroom. She had half a mind to ask Jenny where she and Reed were meeting, but she didn’t want to run into them. The situation was already reaching the heights of freshman-dorm ridiculousness.

The two of them had fallen asleep in a heap in John’s bed last night. They hadn’t even done anything. They were so tired, they had simply slept. Anna was currently huddled under the covers, wearing one of John’s T-shirts. She might joke about romantic comedy clichés, but she’d never enjoyed anything more than the look on his face when she climbed into his bed wearing his shirt and nothing else.

John slept on his back, an arm thrown over his face, as if shielding himself from the sun. Anna was figuring out how much time they had and how long they could stay in bed when the door flew open.

Anna threw the covers over her head and prayed that whoever had walked in didn’t see her.

“Dude,” Derek called.

This is not good.

“Wake up,” Derek said again then uttered a telling “Oh.”

“What?” John asked groggily, thrashing around in an effort to throw off the covers.

Anna pinched his side to remind him she was still there.

“Ow, what the hell?”

Luckily, Derek thought that was directed at him.

“Let’s go for a run,” Derek insisted.

Anna almost groaned out loud. A run at this time of the morning. The mind reeled.

“I’m trying to sleep,” John answered.

“We haven’t gone on a run in a while, and I need to talk to you about that village scene.”

“Uh... you should talk to Anna about that.”

Anna held her breath.

“She doesn’t get it, and I can talk to you about this stuff.”

“She’s the director, man.”

“Look, just talk to me,” Derek insisted. “I’ll talk to her after.”

Is the cast going to John when they should be coming to me?

“What, you have a girl in here?”

“Yeah, so—”

“Holy shit, dude. I thought you would get with Anna, but she’s kinda—”

“I really don’t want to hear the rest of that sentence.”

“Cool, cool. I get it, man. Nice pull.”

“Uh, thanks. Please leave now?”

Anna could imagine the eye roll coming off John.

“Sure, sure,” Derek said, followed by retreating steps.

Anna relaxed when the door shut behind the other man.

“Nice pull, dude,” Anna said, finally coming up from under the blankets.

“Please never say that again.”

“Do you really run? In the mornings?”

“It’s exercise, so yes.”

“I... wow.”

John got out of bed, throwing off the covers, and strode to the door to check the lock. He came back to the bed with a sweet smile, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
