I can’t believe my eyes -- said the Princess redundantly. -- There are mountains, trees and a beautiful lake; I can see lots and lots of flowers in every color of the rainbow. -- She ran over to the Dragon to wake him.
But I haven’t moved.
It was just a suggestion.
Oh, I get it.
She ran over to the Dragon to wake him.
Look, Dragon! Wake up! You have to see this! -- The Princess was very excited -- There are mountains, trees and a beautiful lake. I can see lots and lots of flowers in every color of the rainbow.
The Dragon woke up and stared at the Princess. He looked around and then looked at the Writer. Finally, he closed his eyes and dropped his enormous head to the ground.
Oh, darn it! -- he complained as he covered his head with his huge paws. -- I wanted everything to just be a bad dream.
It’s not a bad dream, Dragon. Don’t you see?
See what, exactly? -- He got up. -- The trees, the mountains, the lake and the flowers? They’ve always been there. Didn’t you ever see them from the top of the tower?
Yes, I did -- answered the Princess, going back to the gate and clinging to the bars. She suddenly felt nostalgic. -- I saw them from the tower, like a distant dream, but to think that now this is all within my reach... -- the overwhelming feeling left her speechless, and she felt a lump in her throat. -- Come on, Writer, open the door!
What do you mean? Just like that? Shouldn’t we do something first?
Do what first, Dragon?
Mmmm... I don’t know. Breakfast?
Who could think about eating at a time like this?
Me!
The Dragon was just stalling. He was afraid.
Come on, Writer. Open it already!
...
...
...
What is it?
I can’t open the door.
What?
The Princess looked bewildered. -- What do you mean you can’t open the door?
I mean exactly what I wrote: I can’t open it.
But how can that be? You’re the Writer of the story.
In case you haven’t noticed yet, dear Princess, let me fill you in real quick: this story… is out of my control! I am literally writing this as I go along and I’m doing the best I can. The door won’t open. Why won’t the door open? Because this isn’t entirely my story anymore. I’m the Writer, that much is true, but I hadn’t planned any of this. If the door won’t open, it’s because I can’t open it. Anything outside both of you and the four walls of the tower...
The tower is round.
It’s a figure of speech, Dragon.
Oh, okay, if it’s a figure of speech then it’s okay. Please continue.
