Zoe was quiet. We were all astonished and the Princess was speechless.
How do you feel? -- asked Zoe.
Good, calm, safe and with a great desire to get out and live again.
Well, don’t waste any time. The door of life is wide open! -- And as she said this, the door to Zoe’s house opened wide. Outside the sun was shining splendidly, the trees and the flowers were so bright and the wind was blowing softly. In the distance, the Princess saw her life go by, her children, the Prince, Yeva, Bonsai, the tower—everything, all the paths and all the possibilities. The sunlight, shining in through the door was impressively...
That’s not the sunlight -- Zoe interrupted me. -- That’s the energy of life. -- The Writer got goose bumps.
I want to live -- said the Princess, looking outside. -- I want to live all of it, the good and the bad. I want to enjoy my happiness and cry all my sorrows... I want to live intensely.
The Princess was in a trance.
Life is an adventure. It’s my adventure and I want to live it, live it ‘til the end. I want... TO LIVE!
She walked towards the door, tears of joy rolling down her cheeks, the wind blowing in her hair and the light of life blinding us all. The Princess crossed the threshold, the Dragon and the turtle walking behind her. The Writer knew that the Princess was truly merging with life now. He knew that the Princess had understood more than probably anyone else ever could, and he knew that no matter what happened now, the Princess would always be happy because she was truly alive.
The Princess turned towards me.
Thank you.
Thank you, Princess. It has been a true honor and an unavoidable pleasure to write your story.
Goodbye, Writer.
Take care of her, Dragon.
The Princess blew me a kiss and smiled, full of emotion, tears rolling down her cheeks...
It’s okay now, you can write it.
Okay... THE END.
The door closed and everything disappeared.
It’s been a long time since I last saw the Princess. The story had ended, but for some reason that I can’t explain, I couldn’t stop thinking about her.
The Writer then decided to write Chapter 20.
I know it’s absurd to have one more chapter when the book is clearly finished, but something tells me that I need to go back. I need to know what happened to the Princess. I want to see if she’s happy, if she has achieved what she wanted... I don’t know, you can call me romantic, obsessed, or stupid, but in case anyone else feels the same way, whoever wants to follow is invited. I’ll let twenty years go by in honor of the chapter’s number.
20
Twenty years had gone by...
