“I . . .” He shivers, and I’m not sure if it’s from nerves or the cold. “I’m in love with you, but . . .”
“But what?” I cock my head to the side, still holding onto him. “I’m in love with you too. I think I may have always been in love with you.”
He gasps slightly, shock on his handsome face. “You’re . . .” He searches my eyes. “But that stuff with us . . . It wasn’t real. Right?”
“What about that didn’t feel real? It was all real, Camden.”
He shakes his head slowly, like he can’t believe it. “But I don’t want you to feel like you have to.”
I stare at him incredulously. How is he not getting this? I grasp his cold cheeks in my hands and look straight into his eyes. “There is no have to. There’s only want to with you. I want to be with you, but I want you to have everything you want and deserve.”
“I want to be with you too.” He grabs my shirt while I hold on to his face, and he smashes his lips against mine. They’re so damn cold, but they heat up from the fire of our kiss. “I love you so damn much.”
“I love you too,” I breathe into our kiss. “We’ll figure it out.”
He pulls back for a moment, looking far more hopeless than I like. I want to just pull him back into a kiss, but he speaks before I can. “How? Kingston. I like . . .”
“You’re not quitting school,” I say firmly.
“But you like it here. You love it here.” He waves his hand, and I’m about to tell him I couldn’t give a fuck about location when a deep voice clears behind me, and Camden freezes in my arms, his entire body tense.
“Boys, you’re letting out all the heat.” My dad. Shit.
Oh, well. I move to Camden’s side and wrap my arm behind his back, standing tall. “I’m in love with Camden. We’re going to be together, somehow. But I’m in love with him.”
Camden’s body goes completely rigid, and for a moment, I think I may have messed up. Maybe we should have talked about this first, but I’m pretty sure my dad saw my lips on his a moment ago, and I’m not ashamed of Camden.
Not now. Not ever. And I meant what I said last Thanksgiving. If my dad can’t accept it, he’ll lose a son.
He stands still for a moment, studying us, and then gives a nod. Though, I’m not sure what it means. “Okay. But you’re still letting the heat out of the house, and it’s fucking cold.”
“W-what?” Camden barely croaks.
