It’s been a busy summer. Camden has been working his ass off all summer to save money, but his mom won’t take a dime. She called that Phillip guy, who apparently was thrilled to find out about their baby. He wants her to move to Dallas with him, but she told him she wants to take it slow.
Still, I think they’re headed for their own little love story. And Camden gets to keep the money he earned for himself. We even met Phillip a couple of times when he came into town. He’s good with Lucy, and she seems to be warming up to him.
I don’t feel bad at all for yelling at his mom. I really don’t. It needed to be said, and things are better now.
I also started full time at Oakley’s Landscape, and as I suspected, I love it. It’s exactly what I want. My muscles are sore as hell at the end of the day, but I get to cash a fat paycheck and not worry about any college debt. I know I get to make the world a little more beautiful, and I get to chill in the evenings, doing what I want to do.
I’m still living with my parents for now until I find a place, but I kick in some rent money, and they don’t seem in a hurry to get me out of the house.
I do wish I had my own place tonight though.
It’s Camden’s last night here.
Last night, we celebrated with the team and said our goodbyes. But tonight, it’s just us. Out in the woods with a tent and a fire. I guess it’s not so bad that I don’t have my own place. Although my dream is to buy some land, just like the land we’re trespassing on, and build a house.
I can’t really see anyone else in that picture except for Camden, and I don’t know what that means.
Not really.
Or I won’t allow myself to think about it. Because he’s getting out. And I’m so damn proud of him.
We lie down on our sleeping bags, but we don’t climb into them. It’s hot out, and I pull my shirt off, looking up through the mesh part of the tent we’ve unzipped and smile when I see the stars in the dark night sky. “You think you’ll be able to find this view in the city?”
He sits up and pulls his shirt off too, then lies down on his back next to me. “I doubt it. You’ll have to send me pictures.”
“I’ll definitely do that.”
I can feel him grinning, even though we’re both still looking up at the sky. “I’m really leaving tomorrow.”
