A slow, rhythmic movement edged its way into Madison’s consciousness. The gentle up-and-down was relaxing, and an intense feeling of peace and security swept over her right before she became aware of the soft skin touching hers. Last night came back to her, and a huge smile lit up her face.
When she opened her eyes and marveled at the sleeping Sherry, lying sprawled on top of her, breathing in and out, deep and even, a wave of affection washed over her.
They were both still naked, and the sheets lay beside the bed on the floor. But she wasn’t cold at all. How could she be with Sherry covering her as much as her small body allowed? It was as if even in her sleep, Sherry couldn’t get enough of her.
Almost bursting with happiness, she caressed Sherry’s tousled hair. Madison couldn’t wait to look into her beautiful face again. She loves me.
She had never imagined that Sherry could love her back. But last night had left no doubt about it. Or had it? How could you be sure that somebody really loved you? God, it was all so confusing. What would happen now?
Never had she woken up beside someone she loved. How was she supposed to act?
Sherry smacked her lips, yawned, and began to stretch, but suddenly she froze. Her eyes snapped open to stare at Madison.
She stiffened. What if Sherry had just been curious about what it would feel like to sleep with a woman? What if she had repeated Madison’s words of love only so she wouldn’t ruin the mood, not because she felt the same? What if—?
Sherry climbed off Madison’s naked body.
The rubbing of their bodies against each other as she moved caused a tingle everywhere, but all Madison could focus on was Sherry’s unreadable expression.
Sherry grabbed the sheets from the floor and pulled them up to her chin.
Not sure what to do with her hands, Madison used them to grab her pillow and turned it so that she could rest her head on it while watching Sherry. Every cell in her body felt as if it was on high alert. She swallowed and forced a smile. “Good morning.”
Silence spread between them, and Madison avoided looking at her, afraid of what she might see in Sherry’s eyes.
Images of their shared passion coursed through Sherry like a firestorm and robbed her of breath. Or maybe it was Madison’s incredibly sexy body lying in all its glory next to her. Madison didn’t seem conscious of her nakedness at all. Or maybe she was. That would have explained her tense posture and her lack of eye contact.
