From there, Madison could see Ruth and Danielle finally start to talk. Or to be more exact, they were whispering to each other, their foreheads almost touching as if sharing deep secrets.
“What the hell just happened?”
“I told Ruth that Danielle is head over heels with her, but she’s too nervous to do anything about it.”
“Oh.”
“Ruth was totally relieved because she’s crazy about Danielle too. She can’t get Danielle out of her head, but she didn’t know what to make of her behavior. Especially tonight.”
“And now?”
“If I’m not mistaken, Ruth just told Danielle that she likes her very much.”
“That’s what she just whispered?” God, they were behaving like teenagers. Cute. Then it hit her, and she made a face. “I hope she doesn’t follow my advice.”
“What did you tell her to do?”
“I might have told her that she should put her hand on Ruth’s upper thigh and move it up slowly to show her interest until she—”
“Please tell me you’re kidding.”
Madison flicked away an invisible piece of lint on her sweater.
“Of all the advice you could give, why did you tell her something stupid like that?”
Madison’s head snapped up. “Because it’s always worked for me.”
“Madison, this is about two women falling in love, not two horny women trying to hook up for the night.”
“I get it.” Now. “And don’t worry, I doubt Danielle will remember anything I said to her.” She pointed to the two women at the table, deeply lost in conversation. “So, what do we do now?”
“Take our leave, what else?” Sherry smiled. “We have to learn to adjust out tactics, but beside that, we’re a good team and I like working with you.”
“Me too. It was fun.” Looking back to the lovebirds at the table, who were now holding hands while chatting animatedly, Madison remembered Sherry’s words from one night a few weeks back about asking Danielle how it felt to be in love. She smiled at Sherry, who was standing close to her. “Thank you for tonight. It wasn’t exactly part of your job and—”
“My pleasure.” She put a warm hand on Madison’s arm and gazed deeply into Madison’s eyes, before stepping back. “Let’s go.”
God, how much she wanted to take Sherry in her arms or at least caress her soft cheek. Who would have thought that she was the touchy-feely type?
Giving in to her impulse, if only for a moment, she took Sherry’s hand. “Okay, let’s wish our lovebirds a good night.”

Chapter 25
“Tony, wait!” Jake, in his cute Luke Skywalker costume, ran after his friend.
“You really didn’t need to come along,” Mrs. Burlinski said for the maybe tenth time. “I could have kept an eye on both of them without you taking time off.”
