“Yes, girl!” Elsie lifts her hand to high-five my sister. “I’m glad at least one of you Young women gets me. I only have a few more hours of not having a small human latching on to my arm, leg, breast, or all of the above. I need waffles. Stat.”

Elsie knows this argument can’t be beat.

I might not be getting the recommended eight hours of sleep a night, but that’s because I have a genuine disdain for time and my overall well-being. Elsie loves her sleep but cannot get it because she’s changing diapers or acting as a human pacifier for the whole-ass baby she’s created. After this is over, I will go home and take a long shower by myself. She has a bouncy seat in front of her shower so that Finn can sit and watch her like a little baby Peeping Tom. These two reasons alone mean the mom card wins every time. Thankfully, she only pulls it out when it’s for something extra important . . . like champagne and carbs.

“Fine.” Between waiting for my dad to make his next move, the Dirty Birds, and now dinner with Jasper, I could really use booze and hash browns anyway. I roll up my yoga mat and tuck it beneath my arm before inhaling the fresh mountain air deep into my lungs and taking one more look at the view around me. “Brunch it is.”

“And while we’re there, we can come up with a plan for your night with Jasper.” Elsie hops up with more energy than she had during the entire class. I was hoping she had moved on from Jasper, but I should’ve known better. “Because what kind of friend would I be if I let you blow this.”

“Yes!” Daisy claps her hands together and drops her mat in her excitement. “I’ll plan your outfit! Even though I don’t start work for a few weeks, my employee discount is already in full effect. I’ll be your private shopper slash stylist. It’ll be great.”

I’m not sure I’d go all the way to great.

I know this thing with Jasper is nothing more than a favor to the Dirty Birds. But it will still be nice for me to spend some more time with my best friend and my sister—whom I’m starting to really enjoy—instead of moping around my apartment all day. Even if it means trading my Birkenstocks for a pair of stilettos for a night.

CHAPTER 7

Elsie and Daisy are never allowed to be around each other ever again.

Like ever.
