And sadly, when I come face-to-face with him, I find out that Elsie was correct.

He is, in fact, even fucking hotter.

Rude.

“Hi,” I echo the elegant word—singular—as I try to gather my wits. It’s a struggle to do anything other than just stand here and gaze into his truly hypnotizing eyes, which fade from a brilliant blue to a vibrant green. “How can I help you?”

I don’t let my mind wander to all the different—and slightly inappropriate—ways I would like to service him.

“Are you Drew Young?” he asks, and for the first time, alarm bells start to ring in my head.

Maybe Daisy was wrong and Dad is back in town. This could be a freaking trap. Mr. Hotty-Hot is probably a lawyer, ready to serve me with papers. I bet he uses his overabundance of charm and good looks as a distraction to catch people off guard before dropping the gauntlet.

“I am.” I narrow my eyes at him and take a step back. “And who, may I ask, are you?”

For some reason, this seems to amuse him even more. The lines by the corners of his eyes deepen, doing nothing to detract from his handsomeness. “I’m Jasper Williams.” He reaches out an oversized hand as I search my mind trying to place the familiar name. “A woman named Mona reached out to me, she told me to find you.”

Jasper Williams? He talked to Mona?

I shake his hand, trying not to be distracted by the way it engulfs mine, when recognition of the familiar name finally dawns on me.

“Oh my god. Jasper Williams.” I pull my hand away. “You’re the author guy?”

I don’t mean for my tone to come out so incredulous, but I can’t help it. This giant hunk of a man is Jasper Williams? Explainer of women, writer of unbelievable romances, Jasper Williams?

“That’s me.” He nods, no longer looking amused, and maybe a tiny bit offended. “The author guy.”

Oops.

“Sorry! I mean . . . wow! Okay!” I’m a little too loud and probably sound a little too excited to meet a person I had exactly zero interest in meeting. “That’s great to know.”

I can feel Elsie’s glare burning into the side of my face as relieved laughter falls out of my mouth, but I don’t even care.

Mr. Perfect isn’t perfect after all! He’s a freaking author! This changes everything.

CHAPTER 4

“Why do I get the feeling it’s not actually great?” says Jasper Williams, Author, and his thick, Instagram-worthy eyebrows scrunch together, the lines on his forehead dancing above them.
