“I admit to being fully invested in this relationship.” Elsie squirts a final pump of olive oil spray onto my hair before stepping in front of me and taking my hands in hers. “But you know the only reason I am is because I saw how happy you were when you were with him. You’re my best friend in the entire world and I will do anything I can to make sure you’re happy. That includes helping plan a grand gesture to mend fences with Jasper, but also finding a secluded spot off the grid to bury him if he ever hurts you again.”

“I second that.” Daisy walks back into the room holding my Dr. Martens, which we compromised on me wearing tonight. “And one of my friends’ dad owns a ton of land up in Montana that we could totally use.”

Awwww.

The life of rich people; it will never not be wild to me.

“Okay, but what happens if he’s not happy to see me? What then?” As much as I want to do this, part of me is screaming to back out. This could go wrong in so many ways, and according to my history as a human on this Earth for the last twenty-eight years, the odds are stacked against me.

“Good vibes only.” Daisy repeats her life mantra but thankfully doesn’t cite The Secret this time.

“Daisy’s right,” Elsie says before I can groan at their non-advice/advice. “If you think this isn’t going to go well, you’re going to talk yourself out of it before we can even get there. You have to think this is going to be the best night ever and everything is going to be perfect.”

“Or should I maybe grab a mini bottle of tequila from the minibar?” Because my armpits are starting to sweat and maybe liquid courage is exactly what I need to get this final boost.

“Absolutely not.” Elsie shuts down my idea immediately. “I didn’t pump all week and ask my mom to babysit overnight for you to miss out on your moment because you decided to be Tequila Tina instead.”

You do tequila shots and end up singing Tina Turner songs on the bar one time and you’re judged forever. But still, I guess she’s not totally wrong.

“Now, come on.” Daisy shoves my shoes into my hand. “We have five minutes before you need to be down there.”

Thanks to the internet and having a sister and best friend who are determined to get Jasper and me back together, Daisy and Elsie found out that Jasper was speaking on a panel for a small book conference in Colorado Springs. At the Broadmoor, to be exact, the same hotel where our first outing, to Seven Falls, was. I guess it’s only fair that I’m the one feeling queasy this time.
