‘Before I go, there’s something else I want to share. And this is something that might be helpful, at least when you begin to gather your list of suspects. In my professional opinion, I believe it’s a safe bet that whoever killed Gabriel is either female or a shorter male due to the angle of the blow to Gabriel’s head. It came from below which would indicate someone with a smaller stature as opposed to coming from above or level with, which would hint at someone of similar height or bearing.’

Alyssa’s gaze swung over to Sandra as she thought of Elizabeth’s bandaged hand. She remembered thinking there would likely be more damage if she was the one responsible for the Kensington murders, and while her instincts shouted that Ms. Monroe wasn’t personally involved in their deaths, she allowed that she’d been fooled by greater actors in the past.

‘Thanks, Lynn. I appreciate the call. Keep us posted, will you?’

‘I always do,’ Lynn said, ‘but I do have one more thing. I pulled several blue strands of hair off Mrs. Kensington, which I assume belong to her daughter, but I’ll be sending them off for DNA testing anyway.’ She hesitated just a second. ‘I’m afraid the lack of physical evidence indicates you’re looking for someone experienced in making sure he leaves no DNA behind, which tells me he might’ve killed before.’

Sandra’s head snapped up, her mouth gawping as she shifted her gaze around the room to see if her reaction was out of place. It wasn’t.

Though everyone sat up straighter, it was Cord who asked what was on each of their minds. ‘Are you suggesting we might be searching for another serial killer?’

Even though she hadn’t been the one who’d said it, the words still left a nasty taste in Alyssa’s mouth.

Lynn sighed heavily before responding. ‘No. But I’m not discounting the idea, either. I’m just sharing my thoughts. But if you care for my opinion, most serial killers are more methodical in their killings, and there’s nothing even remotely methodical in the way the Kensingtons were murdered. But then again, I’m a doctor, not a detective. And on that note, I’m going to go. As soon as I have anything else, I’ll let you know.’ And then she was gone.
