Grace’s suspicion that this case may be connected to her brother’s murder was beginning to make more sense than Alyssa had originally thought. ‘I’d appreciate it if we could get Rosalyn’s number.’

After writing down Rosalyn’s contact information, Elizabeth ripped off the piece of envelope she’d randomly grabbed and handed it over.

‘You said none of Hayden’s friends believed he’d run off, either. Did you ever talk to any of them about that night?’ Sandra asked.

‘Yes, a couple of them, anyway. To be honest, I was so paranoid about keeping our relationship a secret, I didn’t actually hang out with them much. I can’t even remember most of their names. So, I met up with his best friend Marcel and his partner Thad, and the general consensus was that the police believed we were all in denial due to hero worship.’ It wasn’t physically possible for Elizabeth’s eyes to roll any further back into her head.

‘Would you have a way for us to contact either of them?’ Alyssa asked.

‘Actually, Ros told me Marcel died from cancer a few years back. As for Thad, they broke up, so no one really knows what happened to him. The only other friend of Hayden’s I can recall was Al. If Hayden was late for one of our dates, which was frequent, it almost always had to do with Al. I actually never met him, so… Sorry, I know that’s far from helpful.’

‘In my career, you never know when the tiniest bit of information that seems like nothing at the time cracks a case wide open.’ Alyssa stood, indicating the interview was over.

At the door, she thanked Elizabeth for her time and offered her a card. ‘Please call me if you think of anything else.’

Chapter Thirteen

Friday, October 4

Whipping her SUV around a slow-moving Chevy Spark, Alyssa mulled over Gabriel Kensington’s message to Elizabeth Monroe. More importantly, she wondered what and where were the photographs he’d mentioned because, as of yet, none had been discovered in their search of either the Kensington home or office. It seemed the most likely person to answer that question was Rosalyn Benson, Hayden’s sister, since Gabriel’s message came on the heels of his meeting with her.
