This was hard enough on her team as it was, and Alyssa didn’t need their anger directed at each other, so she drew Sandra’s attention back to her. ‘Things really started falling apart after Adam’s DNA was linked to the crime scene, especially since Addis and Emerson had managed to escape. You warned Adam about our search warrant and told him to get out of the house and to meet you up at the cabin. After you left work that night, you drove up to the Pecos where you staged your own brother’s suicide. Is that when you conceived the idea that it would throw us off if you were the one who then “discovered” where the cabin was?’

Alyssa didn’t really expect a response, and she didn’t get one. ‘You must’ve been having quite the laugh before we came across Tony and the girls. My guess is you were hoping they were still wandering, lost in the woods, and you could return after we discovered Adam’s body. You’d approach Addis and Emerson as a cop and get them to trust you. And then you were going to kill them and dispose of their bodies. Of course, the fact that Tony was in the picture meant you’d first have to take him out, as well.’

Tony finally chimed in. ‘Even if you’d managed to get the jump on me without the girls realizing it, getting them to trust you wouldn’t have worked because they would’ve recognized your voice, the same way they did in the hospital. That’s why both of them suddenly became agitated and suddenly needed some rest right after Lys and Cord left.’

Eyes narrowed, Sandra spoke through gritted teeth. ‘Are all of you forgetting the fact that my name is Sandra Falwin, and I look absolutely nothing like Alexandra Greene?’

Alyssa was about to mention that they’d sent Alexander Greene’s beard hair off for a DNA analysis that would prove Sandra and Alexandra were one and the same, but Hal was already speaking.

‘Funny you should mention that. I did some digging – it’s amazing what you can find with just a hint in the right direction. Alexandra Greene met one Darren Pease at Regal Cinemas and began crushing on him. He didn’t reciprocate. Cut through to the end, and you and Darren are in a nasty accident on I-40. Alex suffered multiple lacerations to her face which required extensive facial reconstruction. Over the next two years, you reinvented yourself, including the adaptation of your name. Alexandra became Sandra, though your brother still called you by your childhood nickname, Alex.’

‘But you couldn’t really remain Sandra Greene,’ Cord added. ‘It was too obvious, so you cleverly took on your great-grandmother’s name, Falwin. It’s amazing what the internet can produce, isn’t it?’
