‘What. The.’ Cord exploded from his chair as Alyssa went from frozen to numb in a matter of seconds. It was the same vehicle they’d seen on the video with Elizabeth Monroe across from the convenience store.
‘Last night, Emilia Martinez mentioned the woman who occasionally visited Adam drove a truck. We need to find out if she recognizes that’ – she pointed to the screen – ‘as the same one.’ Alyssa forced the chilling words past her lips. ‘If it is the same truck, it’s possible we’re watching Alexandra Greene in action.’
Goosebumps peppered her skin as an unsettling thought burrowed deep. According to Alexander Greene, both he and Helen Ross’s second husband had abandoned their families because they feared Alexandra. If she was that disturbing at such a young age, Alyssa was afraid to think about how much worse she could be as an adult. And now, in a way Alyssa had not yet figured out, Alexandra seemed to be embroiled in both the Kensington case, as well as whatever was happening with Holly.
Unable to erase the savagery of Gabriel Kensington’s murder from her mind, Alyssa flushed with a burning anger at herself for not having thought earlier of checking the security cameras in Holly’s neighborhood. If she had—She stopped the thought before it could gain traction because, right now, she needed to focus her energy on locating Addis and Emerson.
At this moment, Holly was safe, and she’d stay that way, even if it meant Alyssa had to have Brock hog-tie her and drag her home against her will. She’d be spitting nails, but at least she’d be safe while she was doing it.
At five minutes to six and with varying degrees of exhaustion, the rest of the team strolled into the conference room, and Alyssa placed the photograph back in the envelope. Like she had the others, she would take it over to Bill Hedge and see if any fingerprints could possibly be lifted from it.
‘Lys?’
Looking over at Hal, Alyssa was surprised to see everyone staring at her as if they were waiting for a response. ‘I’m sorry. My mind was elsewhere. Can you repeat what you said?’
Hal tipped his head to the side as he studied her, but if he had anything to say about her lack of attention, he kept it to himself. ‘I was telling everyone I did a little digging into Adam Campbell’s history last night after I got home. He was born to Barry, who died two years ago of heart failure, and Helen Campbell, neé Ross, which definitely makes him the half-brother to Alexandra Greene.’
