My support system is deep and wide. I’m very lucky to have Satellite Sisters coast-to-coast who have encouraged me, supported me, pitched me for local signings or hosted me for book clubs, schlepped my luggage or boxes of books, done my hair and makeup, driven me to events or the airport, and bought me so many glasses of wine. From Pasadena to Portland, Oregon, from Santa Fe to Dallas, from Minneapolis to South Dakota. And the entire tristate area, from New Jersey to Long Island to Connecticut. I couldn’t do it without you. Cheers!
To my family, you’re the best. To my siblings, my siblings-in-law, my nieces, nephews, and niblings, never forget: no free books. To my sons, Brookes Treidler and Colin Treidler, no pressure, but I know a LOT about weddings now so feel free to have one. And to my husband, Berick Treidler, thank you for saying “I do.”
The book is dedicated to my dear friend John Chris Connor, who died unexpectedly as I was completing the final draft. I met Chris on our first night of college, and we remained friends for forty years, thanks to a shared love of Ralph Lauren knitwear and floral design. He was intellectually curious and always had a thoughtful but sharp opinion on most aspects of life from politics to party invitations. He worked in finance, then did a turn in public service working at the White House, followed by a third act in architectural preservation. He was a world traveler and lifetime student of Japan. He was a walking Art History 101 textbook. He was a great dancer, a wonderful storyteller, and a bespoke dresser. He loved Mary J. Blige, rose gardens, great restaurants, and his people—all of them. What I’ve realized since his death is that the JCC slot in my circle of friends will never be filled again. The slot for the person who can text me the specific color of carnation pink to paint my front door. Or send me a Kashif song on Monday morning to start my week off right. Or explain the four stages of the economic cycle to me for novel research while he cooked dinner. I think he would have approved of the wedding flowers in this book. The hydrangeas are for you, Chris. xo
